The Outdoorsy "Sofa".

A bit outdoorsy - 4 days of torrential rain over the Easter weekend; hut dry and toasty.

Photos taken in the 1 hour it wasn't slashing down; performance diminishing drugs taken as the clouds roll in again.

Re-reading I notice you got a Nano-air?

How've you found it? Any durability issues?

I just bought the Light Hybrid. Utterly overspecced for me, but I reckon it'll double as cozy fleece and a hiking with a pack insulation layer.

Plus It looks and feels lovely. Which is the main thing of course.

It arrives today....

Not used it enough to comment on durability, although the outer fabric does have quite a soft feel to it that doesn't feel like it would be very tough, but all the reviews and reports I read seem to have found no problems bar a bit of bobbling.

It's an excellent garment though. On every day I wore it this winter I could get away with that and just a thin hooded base layer on underneath without getting cold or too hot when walking or climbing. The wind does cut through it a bit (which is partly the point) so do need to chuck on something warmer/more windproof if you stop for any length of time in the cold/wind.

The only thing is for me the cut is a bit off, it's a bit baggy in the torso/abdomen and the sleeves are slightly too long. I really like the insulation though, works brilliantly. Maybe I'll try the Arcteryx version as their cut fits me perfectly.:facepalm:

I plan to use mine as more of a midlayer, hence the hybrid rather than the original. So for hiking in (with a pack) on cooler days - chucking insulation or shell over the top when stopped/necessary, and for more stationary/insulation use in the Summer.

I wish mine was "a bit baggy in the torso/abdomen" it's a reminder that I still need to drop a couple kg :D. I've a casual Patagonia shirt in a Medium which fits well, even a little loosely, but my Nano is a Large and is trim. To be fair I love the trim fit, away from my gut the fit is perfect. And, it's only a cm or 2 (i.e. a week or two of stopping eating cake every day) from being perfect on the torso too.

By God, it feels lovely on though. It's a proper luxury piece.

Bought some new merino socks to replace the ones that shrank in the wash ages ago. Mmm, comfy :)
Littlest pipelet is going for his primary 5 outdoor education residential next week so I asked his dad to get him some stuff he needed. Gobsmackingly he has come home with a pair of really nice little North Face waterproof hiking boots! Quite jealous.

Went dog walking this am with a buffalo 6 shirt on with only a vest underneath. Despite being fully vented I was soaked with sweat. Time to step the warmers kit down to something more suitable for the micro climate I seem to live in

Managed to go through Betws y Coed with no major purchases. Thing is I could have quite easily been convinced to spend money as need both trainers and a jacket for running, but things either didn't take my fancy or wasn't paying absolute top dollar rrp.

Just saw this on Facebook, but I've got an Msr reactor and bought memory map recently. I wouldnt normally buy Trail, but I'd read it if free...

(Admin - please delete if this breaches the rules. I don't think it does, so any wrongdoing is unintentional!)

Howdy folks,

I shouldn't really be telling you this - really I shouldn't - but there's a pretty good deal going on at Trail magazine that you might want to know about.

Essentially, until the 18th April (next Wednesday) anybody taking out a subscription to Trail magazine will be sent a Primus Eta Lite stove as a thank you gift. Now, to put that into perspective, the minimum subscription is £59.80, but the RRP of the stove is £100, so straight away you've got a stove and saved £40 off the retail price.

Plus, you get access to Ordnance Survey online maps worth £25.99, so overall you've saved over £65.

Of course, I'm duty bound to point out that you also get 13 issues of a great magazine delivered straight to your door, but the fact is that even if you only use the mag for drying out your boots (although it's not that absorbent), it's still worth subscribing to get this deal - visit www.greatmagazines.co.uk/trail or call 01858 438884 & quote CEAA.

We still have plenty of stove stock left at the moment, but the offer expires next week, so there is a certain amount of urgency. Like I said, though, I'm not supposed to have told you this, so you didn't get it from me...

You're not alone - I walked the dogs at 5am yesterday in just an old Arktis stowaway top and shorts, no t-shirt and I was more than warm enough.

I hate it. I hate being hot, and I don't spend vast and unsustainable amounts of cash on nice things so they can sit in my cupboard for 8 months of the year..

The Sun: fuck off to the other side of the galaxy!

Also posted on the cinema thread....

Second Installment of the Banff Mountain Film Festival last night.

Standouts were this beautiful simple film about a Finnish Ice Diver:

Johanna

and this climbing film:

Safety Third

(for which I can't even find a trailer for online :()

There's a Thai place not far from zeferellis, it was pretty good. At least there was last time I was there.

I think iirc they have a couple of pkaces including one in Bowness that I may have been to years ago and found ok. But I think my wife went to the Ambleside one last year and was disappointed.

Last time I ate there was 2 years ago so yeah, not surprised it's changed. Always the way!

Bought some new OS maps for my next UK trips, to Matlock and somewhere on the coast in Northumberland.

Assume we still like old fashioned map and compass in this group and not all this GPS tomfoolery?

I did go through a period of using the online OS subscription but I found myself having to print stuff out in order to plan properly, so I didn't renew. The weather proof maps are worth the money anyway I think.

I forked out a silly amount of money this year on memory map so could have them all downloaded to my phone, rather then the tiny sections the OS one allows. On the plus side its going on my tax return. Still use proper maps of course, especially as you say when planning, but certainly has its place, especially now I'm trying to get out running in the hills.
