The Outdoorsy "Sofa".

Well, in lieu of the cancelled Scotland trip am in the Lakes.

Headed up Langdale this morning. Pissing rain. Walked up a spectacular in spate Stickle Ghyll. By the time we reached the tarn I was feeling wet and cold and the wind was picking up so after hunkering down in the semi shelter of a little wall for lunch, called it quits and headed down. A few wet snow patches around but nothing exciting.

Try again tomorrow.

Am under strict orders NOT to buy that Patagonia jacket.

Didn't fancy Jakes Rake then? :D

No.

The couple of grassy terreaces you pop out onto frak me out. The rest of it looks ok, but I tend to go up the less exposed and easier North Rake.

To be honest, it was miserable up there this morning, I had no real objectives in mind other than getting out and the Stickle Barn was too inviting....

I've had a day spending money online today. New Fenix head torch, annoyingly replacing one that went missing, spare batteries for it and air bags for the canoe. Still need to buy other bits and bobs. Planning on having two days on Windermere later in the month, one up one side, stay in Ambleside and then back down the other. Cheating and not camping this trip. :)

Well I bought the Patagonia jacket *

...and in full gucci mode I've also got myself some Arc'teryx approach shoes**

* I sold a bunch of old kit on eBay to raise the funds
**heavily discounted on SportPursuit

Heading up to the Lakes this weekend to catch up with a friend visiting from overseas. Hopefully one day out in the fells will be squeezed in between the wine and gossip.

I think the priest hole was ok, and the White Lion was certainly acceptable the last time I ate there - think wetherspoons-type thing, cheap(ish, for Ambleside...), big portions, reasonable quality.

I fear that the state of pubs in the lakes will never recover from the loss of the Lowther Arms in Penrith...

Lottery win?

I always chat about kit/clobber when I meet people wearing it. I was flogging a kayak yesterday and a bloke rocked up with a Patagonia thermal type down jacket/shirt. Said he'd owned it ten years and was still chuffed with it. It had about 15 patches on it and was grubby around the wrists but obviously got his monies worth.

I was planning a productive morning this AM but found this thread and haven't got passed the coffeee stage yet :D

I'm a proper kit pervert, I work remotely round the world so I'm always looking to find the best kit balance between functionality and price (although I can offset some cost as work expenses occasionally)

Shamefully as I work in fairly extreme environments I don't take real advantage of the UK outdoors as much as I should.
This could change shortly as I'm looking after a hound that really doesn't get on with any other dogs so i need to get right off the beaten track.

On my doorstep is the southwest coast path and Bodmin moor, Dartmoor. I'm looking at combining walking the dog with a bit of fishing, whether coastal or trout on the moors.

I'm a research, buy, review, recycle sort of kit monster,I don't think you can work out if something is the business if you don't test it out, if it doesn't work for me it gets eBay's. I've found price isn't necessarily an indicator of functionality and ninja techno Gucci gear sometimes just has too many innovative design features for its own good.

Anyways will keep reading the thread :D

Recently bought an Arcteryx alpine pack Alpha FL 45 Backpack Unisex's and one of those very nice Patagonia active synthetic insulation tops that's a 'put on leave on' kind of thing as it breathes so well Patagonia Men's Nano-Air® Hoody.

Hoping to get a few short trips in this coming winter. Early starts, easy climbs, down in time for tea and medals.

Re-reading I notice you got a Nano-air?

How've you found it? Any durability issues?

I just bought the Light Hybrid. Utterly overspecced for me, but I reckon it'll double as cozy fleece and a hiking with a pack insulation layer.

Plus It looks and feels lovely. Which is the main thing of course.

It arrives today....
