the left is dead

Even though i've said to you explicitly on this thread that i think the left is dead, and even though i've been arguing that on here and elsewhere for the last 15 years. You're very observant aren't you? Dead sharp like.

You are a leftie who spends their whole time doing leftie stuff, you have some sort of belief in it, clearly, I do not!

It makes perfect sense.

You're attributing characteristics and views to him. He's agreeing with you.

Now, ask yourself why he's agreeing with you, and what such agreement could either mean or be.

Are you there yet? ;)

Are you being the cleverest person in the room again? Like what Butchers does! Well funny.

Priceless.:D

Anyway back to the thread.

The history of the left gaining real influence since Capitalism began is virtually non-existent.

Where it has broken through, its ended in catastrophe every time, and made things worse.

Consequently workers are happier with free markets.

If you add to that peoples propensity to roam in herds and the power of dominant ideologies more than ever in the current age. The left has no hope of being revived.

Well there are some left-leaning ideas that are alive and well in the mainstream, no amount of centre right dominance has erased the desire in a lot of people to maintain a National Health Service for example.

Its fair enough to notice that in recent decades some previously large elements of 'the left' have faded into obscurity. But at the same time its silly to think that we suddenly live in an age where hardly any people have a sense of justice and fairness that could lead them to have left-wing thoughts. That sort of left is no more likely to vanish from humanity than nationalism or any other strong driver of political opinion.

Its farily easy for capitalism to win over the masses when its in the boom phase, but lets see what happens if the current financial crisis causes the 'free markets' to stop delivering enough to pacify lots of people. It may well be easier for lots of people to lurch to the right in response, but we'll also see governments forced to take actions that sure do smell like some policies of the old left.

The idea that the left is dead also becomes much sillier if we are talking about the whole world rather than certain parts of the West. Even authoritarian leftist governments, which have been so discredited by the own actions in decades past, still pop up from time to time.

Anyways if environmental catastrophe and resource woes are a big part of our future, these new realities may be incompatible with various capitalist and market ideologies that seem so dominant right now. Eventually, barring some new mega science leap or space mineral exploitation, unsustainable things will reach the magic point where they cannot happen anymore. When that day comes, Green could fully evolve into the new left. Or people will stay on the right and have a bloody race to the bottom, time will tell eh.

Do you ever make a real contribution to threads or is this it? I'm so glad that I'm not you because if I were, I'd have killed myself long ago;I'd unable to live with the shame and the stigma of being an empty-headed tool with porridge for brains.

You might want to rethink your tagline...which could be difficult for someone who doesn't think.

Nice narrative - no thought, no history, just narrative.

But this

Consequently workers are happier with free markets.

So Chile would be one example of where the free market made for happier workers?

I cant think...
That's becoming fairly obvious. :(
...I've only been on this site for years you silly twit!
And how does that validate your opinions, hmmm?
It doesn't.
If pbman claimed that his categorisations of anyone to the left of Attila the Hun were correct because he'd been on this site for years, would you pay any attention to him? I'd hope not.

Get a grip, eh?

Once you've done that, how about actually responding with a proper answer to my questions, if you can be arsed to do anything more than act like a petulant child, that is.

Because you're fundamentally dishonest and a coward who can't hold his own in debate.
Run away, little chicken.

why is truth so very amusing?

Still Al can join Dravinian and others in the

spaced out and overly long posts

conceal the paucity of actual points

So Chile would be one example of where the free market made for happier workers?

Yep, and Ghanaian cacao and coffee growers love the fact that "the free market" means they have no control over their own livelihoods.

etc

etc

etc.

It wouldn't be quite so bad if "the free market" was a "free market", at least then it would be understood that conditions dictate certain behaviour in what would be trade war, but it isn't. It's a pseudo--free market that is liberally salted through with provisos, detours and circumventions that benefit those that have the greatest leverage on the market (the "capitalists") to the detriment of those with the least.

If workers are truly happier in such states, why do so many countries where the raw materials for our consumer culture originate operate swingeing anti-unionisation laws and/or suppress labour organisation? Why are trade unionists in countries as far separated as Colombia and The Philippines murdered for being trade unionists?
