The dog thread is better than the cat thread, because it features dogs.

Hi Epona the stairs are actually pretty steep even for me, and Larry is quite a big dog, I think if I tried to carry him we might both end up in a heap at the bottom of the stairs.

He likes to meet me when I come back from work and come to my place for some treats. Sometimes in the last few weeks I have had to give him lots of encouragement to even go up the stairs. Then suddenly he can do it and he motors up. But what goes up must come down and we really struggled the day before yesterday.

It is quite sad because he wants to come with me but he has forgotten that he can't manage the stairs so easily anymore.
Ah poor old boy. Lucky for him he has a friend/ uncle to spend time with, who is watching his mobility along with his other peeps
I do hope he can keep coming to yours and hanging out with you

Ahh bless him, might you be able to sit at the bottom of the steps to spend some time with him and make that a thing?
Actually something like that might work. When he comes with me he always first goes for a potter in the walled garden. However the habit is that after that potter he comes up my stairs. I could try to take him home instead.
I think my cat might be losing a bit of cognitive nous recently, especially since his recent UTI, I've started bringing his food bowl up to the sofa when he's left some in there and started pestering me for food again and then he remembers he hasn't finished his meal - so I do understand, even if the situations might be a bit different (not least that I can carry my cat if he needs help)
Is your cat a senior animal like Larry Epona?. I had a senior cat some years ago called Chloe at some point she started to forget about the litter tray and instead would leave little messages around the place for us. :)

Thanks Saunders, Larry is a good old boy, and a great pleasure to go for a walk with, everyone we meet wants to say hello to him.

Jakey is 17, some cats do live longer than that of course but he is OSH and they typically make it to a mean of about 15 - much like dog breeds, cat breeds (although most cats don't have a particular breed) have different expectations of longevity.
So he's a bit ancient bless him, he also has CKD and being treated for that for nearly 2 years now, plus he's always been daft as a brush anyway so sometimes it's hard to tell. 🤷‍♂️

Out the back of our estate in Exeter. It's all earmarked for development sadly.
Doesn’t surprise me. When I moved here just over 3 years ago there were so many fields where are there now houses and sites under developed - the drive I used to do from Kennford to the Devon hotel now looks very different

I was a volunteer for them for a few years.

So I’m wondering what to do about the oldies dog, he’s nice enough but I really don’t want him short term, let alone long term

A dog walking friend of mine said they’re not great locally for dog walking volunteers, which is understandable, we’re a bit out of the way

Dogs' Trust say they'll take on a dog if one of their members dies - not quite your situation but if you can't find somewhere else they might help?

Dogs' Trust come across as lovely people, plus of course the free £1,000,000 third-party fire-and-theft insurance you get for being a member at £25 a year.

Yes they do struggle with getting the right volunteers in the right place. I only ever had 1 match in my area. Could drop them a line and see what they can do

Bella has discovered that this sofa back squashes down to make a place for her to hide / lie down and watch everything from higher up than the floor - very much like a cat !
So she's sat watching me type !
correction - now dozing off [I tried to pick up the camera, but woke her up]

Got back quite late last night from a couple of days on the Boat in white orangehaven.
Introduced Bella to the Boat, Beach and plenty of people & other dogs that had known Ben de-Dog.
Plus a trip to L'aal Ratty for food, train ride and another Pub.

She passed all those with flying colours !
