The dog thread is better than the cat thread, because it features dogs.

Question: do people take their dogs in for yearly vaccinations? Frankie's been called in for his but he hardly ever actually meets other dogs, then generally just gives them a bit of a sniff, and seems really happy with having good runs round the (large) garden.

Having to play pass the dog again, due to more housing crisis bollocks. So Axle is going to my daughters - who thank fuck just got a big rental house with garden, after applying for 7 months. And I move to a smaller place with Lady. I'm feeling pretty sad about it, he's the only dog I ever actually chose for me, my good boy- but needs must when you don't have much $ and made past choices based on values that didn't include home ownership. I'm so pissed off that I have to get a mortgage at 60 just to keep a safe roof over my head  plus can't have my big dog there ( body corp)

He adores my daughter, he'll be fine, I'm the one crying. Bitter sweet week :(

I know I'm in a privileged position compared to many many people - but still rarrrrrrr

Appointment booked, ta :)
I’ve always wanted to be sure mungo was jabbed for leptospirosis as he’s a hunting dog by nature and has opportunities to chase rats, go in streams etc where we live (he’s never caught a rat or once been in the stream, but you never know)
Also, in an emergency having to leave him in kennels, he needs to be up to date with vaccinations, although I’ve never bothered with kennel cough and the 3 kennels I’ve used haven’t been bothered either once they’ve seen his other vax history

Well, we can safely say that Bella is OK with other dogs ...
while at the V.E.T. today, she interacted with a massive rottie and a toy cockerpoo.
went for a walk at Miltonrigg Woods, with a few more Labs interacting happily.

Her walking on lead / to heel is very good already, she even trotted with me for a bit.
We'll need to work on her recall, but she's accepted her new name already.

[and I did get some pics ...]

Yes. Along with flea and worm treatment for her and the cat's its quite expensive!

Feeling "somewhat" pi55ed off atm over one thing, but thankful over another ...
Went to collect Ben's ashes, and a footprint plaque which had been returned to the vets.
The footprint wasn't there !!!!
However, the box etc was very tastefully done.
Oh, and the vet sent a condolence card.

Sorry, many apologies.
Still on the camera chip, will try and do the download later ['puter and camera were not talking the first couple of times I tried and I can't find the chip converter ... ]
Finally managed to corral all the electronics !
link to the album for Bella's pictures.

and she has been introduced to the V.E.T. [we were down there to get Beauty / Tripod her chip, and collect Ben's ashes ]

Larry is starting to be an older gentleman. I think the vet warned us that he might have a bit of dementia. The last couple of times he has visited me he found it very difficult to go back down the rather steep stairs. It was as if he had forgotten how.

Anyhow perhaps some extra TLC from me on our walks can't go amis. 14 is a good age for such a hound.

Ahh elderly pets - they give us so much over the years, a bit of extra TLC and understanding from us in their dotage is a small price for the years of love and loyalty.
Is there anything you can do to help with the steps? If he is too big to carry down then a ramp or something?

Hi Epona the stairs are actually pretty steep even for me, and Larry is quite a big dog, I think if I tried to carry him we might both end up in a heap at the bottom of the stairs.

He likes to meet me when I come back from work and come to my place for some treats. Sometimes in the last few weeks I have had to give him lots of encouragement to even go up the stairs. Then suddenly he can do it and he motors up. But what goes up must come down and we really struggled the day before yesterday.

It is quite sad because he wants to come with me but he has forgotten that he can't manage the stairs so easily anymore.

Ahh bless him, might you be able to sit at the bottom of the steps to spend some time with him and make that a thing?
I think my cat might be losing a bit of cognitive nous recently, especially since his recent UTI, I've started bringing his food bowl up to the sofa when he's left some in there and started pestering me for food again and then he remembers he hasn't finished his meal - so I do understand, even if the situations might be a bit different (not least that I can carry my cat if he needs help)
