The dog thread is better than the cat thread, because it features dogs.

A shout out to Miss-Shelf and all others who a few weeks ago gave encouraging feedback about using a dog behaviourist. We decided to go for it and had the first half of the training today.

It’s made a massive difference already :) The guy was brilliant- it’s amazing how things as seemly simple as body language, eye contact or positioning around a dog can be so effective. Even after he left. A friend who was the first visitor after we got the dogs, and was relentlessly barked at for most of the weekend, came by this afternoon and was only very briefly barked at for a minute or two after she rang the bell, and for the rest of the visit the dogs were as happy and chilled with her in the house as if she was one of us.

Lots of homework to do and significant obstacles yet to overcome (the whole barking on sight to other dogs being the final boss fight), but so fucking happy we went for it.

So pleased to hear that success story

Presume he was poorly treated in a previous life. Do you know his back story?
Not really just that he’s not really been socialised etc
It’s weird because they aren’t a breed you find in rescues much. They’re expensive and you usually have to join puppy lists and wait for them so they’re not a dog you get on a whim.
So to find a 7 month old in rescue is unusual.

I’d probably want to know where he was bought from as most breeders have a clause that they’re returned to them and not sold on or handed into a rescue.

When we got Lucy directly from her owners we got a very upset email from her breeder who was threatening to try and get her back from us because they’d breached the contract.
