The dog thread is better than the cat thread, because it features dogs.

First time since 1983 that I haven't had a dog in my home
:( I'm not liking it one bit.
I hear you ice-is-forming, there is no-one to throw a bacon rind down to, or step over to get to the fire. You are used to seeing the side of their tail as they walk past, the shape of them sleeping in the corner, opening the door to let them out or call them in. And they’re not there. They are the rhythm of your day and an integral part of the fabric of your life; they are both family and friend; you notice the weather change and the seasons pass all the more acutely because you experience Outside with and through them.
And as they get older you are looking for ways to make them more comfortable, I remember you posted photos of trying to give Bruce a comfortable place to sleep, which he eschewed 🙂
Feel for you ❤️

Well I've sort of come to a decision about a dog, Ive just got to discuss it with my son who i share a home with.

My eldest ( with the puppies and the 3 retrievers) has another senior dog, who would probably quite like to come and live with me. She's never lived in a house before, she'd love it at her age ( 9 iirc) plus shes a very good guard dog. Ive always been one of her favourite people.

So we shall see, if son 2 is up for it, we'll call it a trial to begin with.Screenshot_20230610-205928.png

Our dog had never lived in a house before she came to live with us aged 11. The first morning I came downstairs and found her chilling on the kitchen table. She didn't know it wasn't allowed and hasn't done it again.

I did some more thinking about poppy dog ( senior family dog) she's not really senior at 8, she's got a lot of energy. Son 2 said he was okay with it, but in the end I've had to decide against her :(

She's a weapon.
She is 8 and I won't be able to change this.
I reckon she'd go over my front fence, and if not over then through it.
She will end up biting someone or someones dog.

There's guard dogs and then there's weapon dogs.

I had been having this fantasy about poppy being the sort of dog I wanted, instead of the actual dog she is. Idiot

Soooo... Of course I could have a retriever from the next litter. But I've never actually wanted a retriever.

So I'm looking for a good boy puppy, I'll know them when I see them.

I seriously could cry
Bought some beautiful new bed linens and have held off putting them on the bed until I had a couple of days off. Managed earlier to field the dog out with his rotting dead bunny, helped somewhat by granny giving him all her roast lunch I made. Only to be confronted just now by him running in all fired up with earthy wet paws and stinking of fox shit.
I shouted at him to fuck off and also ran a bath

Well what a palaver
After wandering up and down the lane calling enticing phrases, like the child catcher, I happened to see him up on some stones. Told him how pleased I was to see him and made no mention of the bath. The whole wet business is now over, he is not on my beautiful new bed and is licking his dignity on the sofa

So I did some more thinking, and poppy dog is going to come and stay for a few weeks to see how it goes :hmm:

I'll have to go around my fences with a hammer and some long nails first.

My son said he thought I'd be surprised about her nature now, he reckons she's much softer & floppier these days. I wfh, I have a dog shaped hole in my floor, it's a trial, what can go wrong 🙂

I'm away this weekend coming, so she'll arrive in a week.
