*The Archers thread

The Asian hornet storyline feels like it’s been written by AI

Its purpose I suppose is to establish Asra has moved in and has two kids, one of whom Ben will have storylines with - love at first sting?

In the time honoured tradition of The Archers, it's a DEFRA message. Asian hornets are a new and serious threat to bees and other pollinators.
It was utterly crass of them to link it to Asra and Zainab!

Tears from George.
Does he actually get it or is he just feeling sorry for himself?
I'm still worried he's going to get a suspended sentence.

If George has a decent lawyer there will be a chance of a suspended sentence because of how he saved people from the river - but on the other hand he framed Alice and didn't tell the truth, until he was forced to by his mum calling the police.

It seems likely he could go down, at least for a while.

“That Snell woman” as Joe Grundy would put it got on my nerves last night. I can imagine she will now try to atone for her offensiveness in the most excruciatingly Linda way over the next week. Perhaps the village play will be the Arabian Nights

I wasn’t clear what drink was being boycotted but I am not one for fizzy pop, was it a subtle reference to boycotting Israeli products?

So perhaps it is Thursday "the sentencing" I am coming round to the idea that with victim impact statements like Alice's, George will probably get a custodial sentence, his bravery in the river notwithstanding.

Place your bets!

Well of course his bravery was only needed because of his actions which I feel does diminish it slightly!

I thought the accident, was just that, an accident, It was framing Alice and then prolonging that deceit that George is guilty of.

It's a better story to lock him up although 'letting him off' with a suspended sentence will lead to some good storylines too.
I think it could go either way but if I had to put money on it I'd go for 12 months incarceration.

He'd had a couple I think so if not pissed, at least potentially over the limit. And was he driving without insurance too?
Yes almost certainly without insurance, I don't even recall that he has a full driving licence? Probably has, hasn't he been driving tractors on the road in his various jobs?

I don't really listen to it consistently (generally just if it comes on while I'm cooking) so I'm not the person to ask really.

After all the build-up of "I'm definitely going down", I'm sure Georgy Boy will get a suspended sentence.

The question is: how does he behave after that?

Some interesting storylines if he goes right back to being the old git-George of before.

I suppose in Ambridge the prisons are as overflowing as they are in the real UK so perhaps there is that motivation to send fewer people down.

ISTR he's being done for perverting the course of justice and dangerous (or was it just careless?) driving. Not TWOC or driving under the influence or wthout insurance, though those should have stuck. IRL they would have thrown the book at him.

Astonishingly, Alice hasn't been done for being drunk in charge, which would have been an easy collar even if her keys were in the glovebox.

But this is Ambridge, which bears very little resemblance to real life. So it's possible George will get a suspended sentence, so that he feels foolish and sheepish when all the prep for going to prison turns out to be not needed and there is a general sense of deflation and resentment all round, which will fester. But it would be cleaner dramatically if he was sent down for a year or so. Then everyone can say Told You So, and attention can turn to the growingly obvious racism and unexamined privilege in the village.

Maybe Alice (actually it feels more Brian) will mount a private prosecution for TWOC when he doesn't do time for dangerous driving or perverting the course.

Well, well!

George is going to be away for a couple of years.

I thought that that was a good episode.

No two years and one year but concurrently.

Normal 50% discount he'd be out in a year. If HMG bring in an another early release schema, which seems likely he out in just over nine and a half months. So July next summer.

I think, but I am not sure, that the "discount" does not operate in the same way with a concurrent sentence.

And being pissed while driving.
We don't know that.
He only had one bottle of cider that we know of.
Hmm wonder if we will get glimpses of life inside in the coming months, seems likely.
We very rarely if ever get anything from outside of Ambridge in the first person.
I don't think we heard Freddie's experiences in prison. Only him relaying his experiences later. Not sure if we even got prison visits first hand.
