It goes both ways. would you rather fake venom in the form of the tyson v lewis pre fight conference. Tyson appeared so contrite in the post fight interview, it was hard to fathom his earlier actions.
Khan looked good in the opening rounds. I saw drilzane throw a punch that my mind swore hit khan, but khan wasn't there to receive it.
Although khan was rattled on a few occasions, by a fighter who isn't noted for his punching power. Which worries me.

Expected though no? he was knocked down in his amateur days?

I don't know much about khan's amateur record, though I would imagine it was exceptional.
I would prefer khan learn his trade the right way a la david hayes.
If khan's prepared to fail now, then he will reap the rewards later.

an old one...Lenny Mc Lean V Mad Gypsy Bradshaw...

Roy Shaw and his fights with Lennie Mclean were legend in the 60/70s They were both regarded as exceptionally hard men.
heres one of their fights..mid 70's

Both fighters were in their mid 40's at the time , Roy Shaw spent a few years in Broadmoor, and Lennie "the guvnor" Mclean owned a boozer in the eastend.

+ john wayne parr pro mo :D the 'australian gun slinger' he used to wear a cowboy hat, looks like hes gone all 'tastefull' now:(

w.

still  tho.

Erik morales for me is a great fighter and human being, and heres why. pacquiao is humble in victory, a sign of a true champion.

Did you hear McLean commentating on the gypsy fight? "Personally, I'd knock the two of them out, one after the other." :)

Yep, Castillo is on the same card. if both he and Hatton win I'd like to see them against each other next. Then Mayweather.

Bumping an old thread, but is anyone watching the Joshua v Povetkin fight on Saturday night?

Boxing is in a great place at the moment, with some great fights already taken place this year and more to come.

So, who've you got on Saturday? The man mountain AJ, or the old brawler Povetkin?

I think Joshua as his reach, size and evasiveness will be too much for the much smaller , ageing Povetkin, but I'll still stick a fiver on the Russian just in case.

AJ should jab the head off him and finish him with a cpl of crisp right crosses and uppercut mid rounds.

But... am putting a 10er on Pov by KO in rounds 2 and 7, 100-1 for rd 2 in some places, cos you just don't know with the big fellas.

Should be easy peasy for AJ tho'.

After Povetkin's knock out of David Price all the talk was of the manner of the knockdown, everyone seemed to forget that a round or two earlier Price had rattled him seriously and Povetkin may well have been saved by the bell.

A dangerous fighter for sure but beatable.

Yep, sent him flying across the ring into the ropes iirc. Hard to tell how much it was an off balance thing rather than him being stunned, but he's have certainly gone down if it wasn't for hitting the ropes in the way he did. Price was doing okay otherwise from what I remember as well, erm, till getting caught.

I think he caught him fair and square, it wasn't really that he was off balance just that he was on the attack and his guard dropped and Price got through. I still think had that been mid-round Price would have won that fight. That being said apart from that punch Povetkin was the much better fighter and deserved to win.

I still think he's a real danger.

I'd agree with the above.

I'd also like to see Joshua get beat sometime soon, just to add to the drama if nothing else. Imagine if Povetkin won?

Better fighters have had upsets and it's done them no harm in the past.

Joshua might fight Whyte again:
Anthony Joshua’s next opponent could be Dillian Whyte, says Eddie Hearn
So, who is dodging who, Joshua or Wilder? Or is this just the usual contractual noise? Genuine q, by the way, I never quite got the low down on their previous attempts to seal a fight.

Whyte would be a credible opponent, certainly dangerous and stronger than when he fought Joshua last time. But it seems like a step back.

Definitely a step back, but it will guarantee Hearn another pay per view before another bigger fight.

To be honest, Wilder hasn't convinced me, and Fury is not yet fit, so there aren't that many other options. Pulev? Ortiz?

An intriguing one for me would be Joe Joyce, if he wins his next few to become a contender I think he'd be a good test for Joshua. Limited, yes, but fit, strong, and seems fearless in the ring. Plus he's knocking on at 32, but that's almost a decade younger than Klitschko or Povetkin.

I think Whyte is underrated.

April is probably too soon for the winner of Wilder v Fury given they don't even have a date / venue yet.

With AJ v Wilder I get the impression its not really a case of dodging more just a case of neither fighter wanting to accept the other ones terms.

ETA: I'd be very surprised if both Wilder and Fury are not at Wembley on Saturday to make it all about them and their fight.

Wilder seems to be winning the PR battle, particularly after the Ortiz fight. Joshua and Hearne seem to have been on the back foot a bit. Wilder seems to have gone from 'never fought anybody' to 'willing to take on anybody' in the space of a couple of months, especially with Fury falling into his lap. Fury's a wily beast, but it's hard to see any other outcome than him getting sparked out. Will probably leave Wilder favourite to beat Joshua when they finally meet. In reality, either of them could (and will) knock the other out.

Aside, at my partner's expense. I fancied watching the Joshua fight at a pub in Middlesbrough, y'know, the 'book a table' thing:

Me: 'do you fancy watching the Joshua fight at the Southfield on Saturday?'
Her: 'whaaat! He's actually fighting in the pub!'
:D

I hope you have kept the ruse going and will only reveal the truth on Saturday night.

I think AJ was rocked and Povetkin of 5 years ago would have minced him.

Still, a great fight.

Whyte or Wilder/Fury next?

Personally would love to see a fully fit Fury run rings round him, but who knows...
