Prole's conspiracy theorist pals have been busy ranting on at a meeting about a public inquiry at the House of Lords. The meeting was set up by the Campaign against Criminalising Communities, and Nafeez Ahmed, author of The London bombings An Independent Inquiry. It was hosted by Lord Rea and featured in the panel of speakers a representative of the de Menezes family campaign, Prof. Bill Bowring a human rights lawyer with Gareth Pierce due to speak but unable to come as she was still in court. Muslim representatives were there too.
Lowest point - David Shayler ranting and interupting and calling Milan Rai ''ignorant' and banging on incoherently about 9/11, ( Mil Rai is the peace activist and author of 7/7 The London Bombings islam and the Iraq war'. His was the book launch attended by survivors which was purposefully disrupted ny memebers fo the '' British 9/11 TRuth movement'', feat. Prole and her mates all sitting in a row and interuppting and handing out ''July 7 Truth RELEASE THE EVIDENCE'' flyers.)
Another low point tonight- someone who I think may have been a man dressed in Dusty Springfield-esque drag, or possibly a very gruff woman with big hands, ranting that the bombers were innocent and calling them '' the gentlemen'' and saying there had been no trial. I pointed out that they were dead'..'' Exactly! Exactly!'' s/he roared. The audience looked mortified.
There was more rambling from the conspiracy theorists, talk of false flag ops, more 9/11 conspiraloonery and all in all determined attempts to pervert the agenda and hijack the legitimiate questions with bloody conspiracy theories.
Afterwards, about 10 people came up and said they were embarrassed by the loons. Lord Reas said he was shocked and thought they were mad. The chap representing Muslim students said it was sickening how conspiraacy theories flourished in the minds of the weak, and those in denial, but most people, the Muslim students and youth he worked with could deal with the fact that the bombers claimed to do it for Islam, and the debate was how to get past this extremism and engage.
It is such a shame that all the hard work and research and heartfelt demands of so many for an independent inquiry are in danger of being drowned out by a minority of cranks, who do such damage by attempting to evangelise at public meetings.
I felt disgusted to be in a room with them, with their murderer-exonerating ways, and deeply sad that because of them the campaign is likely to be discounted as only of interest to cranks.
I went out for drinks with 2 of the speakers after, Nafeez and Ashad Rehman from the Newnham Monitoring Project, and we tried to think of a way of getting away from the conspiraloons, who are part of the problem, whether they realise it or not.
Depressing. But they willl not win, an dtheir histrionics isn't endearing them to sane people who have the misfortune to see them in full flow, which I suppose is a blessing.
I suppose that is why the wriggling Prole is tolerated here - she can be exposed as the misguided ( let's be charitable) woman with 'issues' she so patently is.
