stop MP's moonlighting

hash tag

Books, not bombs
MP's should not have second jobs (paid of otherwise). In the wake of the Paterson affair I mentioned that political donations should be curbed for fear of the influence they can buy.
Twisting this slightly, I don't think MP's should have a second job as they should be far too busy to do their constituency\ministerial work and more besides. I gather there are over 90 MP's have have
a second job and getting paid for it. Do they really have the time to do this and it surely buys the company that "employs" them influence in parliament. I would not stop with salaried second jobs either.
I gather that nice Mr Mogg chappie has an unpaid role with a financial institution in which he holds a major stake. While not being paid by them, but by using his influence he (and his family) could
be indirectly benefiting from any lobbying he does on the companies behalf.
Unless in the case of an emergency like the pandemic, I don't think I could support the likes Dr Khan in having a role at a local hospital's A&E department. There should be enough trained staff without
the need for the likes of her.

Well Yes I would go further and ban former ministers at least from taking any role that involves dealing with serving politicians for at least ten years after they leave office.
I gather they do, but only for 2 years at present.

Doesn't mention how many are landlords.
Easy to find out though

115 apparently most though not all Tories
 Boris Johnson has been PM for 2 and bit years now
My point precisely, Those who were ministers under Cameron and May will all know him on a first name basis (not all of them will hate his guts) it would be a lot easier for them to call him up and say "Boris do us a favour mate" than someone who left office 10 or 15 years ago.

My point was it doesn't feel like 2 and bit years (in some ways it feels a fuck of a lot longer.

Stilll, 1 days in Office without a gaffee.

We are at the stage of the argument where it is being claimed that we can stop them being corrupt by paying them more.

We can stop them being corrupt by banning consultancy lobbying jobs and giving them five year jail sentences if they get caught. And use the money for something else.

hash tag is correct. However the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (ACoBA), as they are known, are utterly toothless. For reference read virtually any copy of Private Eye over the last ten years or so.

the amount of right wing boot licking people i've seen over the last few days saying we should just pay mps more to avoid this over the last few days
has been infuriating

like being in the top 5% of earners is not enough, that greedy fuckers would stop being mps if they were not allowed to skim more off the top

Ban it and see who really wants to be a public servant rathar than a money grabbing wanker

kind of telling that one of the highest earning moonlighting mps spent lockdown out of the country assisting in a home office probe about courruption

and the Cox even claimed expenses for a 49 pence bottle of milk back in 2015

these cunts are just taking the piss and trying to mix it up with Freedom and sovereignty

dunno really.

can see the argument that MP's shouldn't have other jobs, but could argue that an MP who's a part time doctor (rather than PR / lobbying / business 'consultancy') is going to be more in touch with the real world than one who never leaves the proverbial westminster bubble, but not sure how agreement could be reached on what is / is not OK.

and what's the deal if you're a doctor and don't practise for x amount of time? any MP could get turfed out at the next election and wouldn't seem right if they are no longer qualified for their old job if they get de-selected / voted out.

Could they take KIT days as do women on maternity leave? It’s not like they don’t have enormously long recesses

I've reached the stage of absolute apathy, because it doesn't matter who's in charge, they're all a bunch of self-serving cunts.
Over 60% of TDs here (our MPs) are landlords. How the fuck can they be allowed to vote on anything that could impact their income. Its an absolute conflict of interest, yet here we are.
No member of Parliament should be allowed into a role where they can vote to make themselves richer, but I can do fuck all about it, and I've given up thinking I can.

maybe give medics a different situation as its still public service

saying that if its a doctor in PR / lobbying / business 'consultancy then fuck em

:)

Probably, doctors and lawyers, accountants have to practice for so many hours or days in a year to keep their licence/certificate?

nah fuck lawyers and accountants

unless of course they can prove by providing full disclousure than they are not making extra money from the benifts of being a mp

86 k and expenise's is enough of an insentive

geoffrey cox being the example of greedy wankers taking the piss again

Labour are knee deep in this too so expect no push from her majesties opposition
Just a blip in the news cycle
Indeed. I remember about seven years ago seeing an incomplete list of the then Labour politicians with financial links to private health firms. There were over 50 known Labour politicians across the two Houses of Parliament who couldn’t be trusted on healthcare and the integrity of the NHS.
