Show us yer house and house-related meddlings

I thought it would be a very good idea to remove the old integrated dishwasher and make the space into another kitchen cupboard.
Not sure how my relationship will fair after today!

There's a big mess in the kitchen.

The radiator got reattached today too

I need to make shelves for the interior of that wardrobe, I need to build a wardrobe in an alcove and we need to get the bed back in, which is not a small job.

And the kabbess needs to get curtains. This is a Major Job. Two years ago, she bought some bits of vintage French chateau drapes, but hesitated before buying the whole lot and somebody got in there first. She’s been kicking herself ever since because now she is obsessed with getting That Exact Material. So we’re going to have to first find someone who can make material that replicates these vintage drapes before we can even begin to think about finding someone to make the curtains…

My sister got very obsessed with some fabric remembered from our childhood. I managed to find an exact replica by a brand called Lee Jofa, whereupon she realised it wouldn't actually go with her decor.

I laughed, but it's really annoying if you've been through all that effort just for her to say oh no that doesn't work at all

Not really. It's the kind of task I enjoy. I guess the point is sometimes we get fixated on what we think we want and then we get it, and it doesn't really work for us. There are many lovely things in life which can make us happy.
That makes a lot of sense :)

I got obsessed with replacing some 50s/60s curtains a few years ago, which ended up with me redrawing the design, getting fabric digitally printed and nearly breaking the equipment at a fabric printers somewhere in north london, due to unprecedented amounts of ink being required. It still wasn't possible to quite recreate the colours, perhaps because the originals used some kind of highly toxic dye that's no longer allowed.

I think what we are saying is you may want to help the kabbess to go through a grieving process for the château fabric and introduce her to some of the other lovely and outrageously expensive fabric available.

If nothing in the shops appeals, spoonflower is the answer.

If its the fabric on the chair I suspect quite hard to find an alternative.

The best would be alternative French chateau curtains with that room and furniture. I feel for her, would never be in a position to do what she's doing, but clearly everything is very carefully chosen.

kabbes if you need details of a reassuringly expensive curtain shop, the sister of one of my friends runs one and could perhaps assist the kabbess on her quest. PM me and I'll get her details.

She makes and sells the most beautiful interior soft furnishings, has done many bespoke jobs and has a wealth of knowledge.

Our old shower hose has been leaking constantly for ages and after my mother trying to repair it with tape and fernox (with me as an assistant) only to have it fair within 48 hours I decided to give things a shot.

Got a new hose on amazon and then managed to install it in under 10 min.

Shocked we didn't do it sooner it was so easy

I have built shelves into the 1834 wedding chest. I used offcuts of the floorboards. It’s beautiful and looks like they’ve always been there, but they were an absolute bastard to work with because they’re bowed and I only had a couple that were long enough, so I had to make some joins and nothing — cupboard or boards — is square. Anyway, result and the kabbess can now put her jumpers somewhere instead of them being in bags all around the house
