Looby the print of your wallpaper is similar to what I'm looking for but I want it on a dark blue or an emerald green background for curtains.
I've found some I like but they're made to measure and will cost ££££.
I'm trying to convince myself I can make curtains. 🤔

Curtains are easy, just a few straight runs of stitching. :)

It seems like it should be simple but maybe not. There’s bound to be some YouTube tutorials.

I was going to have a go on some smaller ones first, for the spare bedroom. I'd hate to buy loads of fabric and muck it up.

The main thing to remember is that for most curtain hanging methods/styles you'll want a lot of gather at the top - depending upon style, you're looking at making curtains 1.5x to 2x the width of the area you want them to hang over (window plus a bit each side), then gather at the top - this is often using curtain tape but it depends how you will hang them.

This is where people often go wrong, by not allowing enough width of fabric.

Just a note to anyone who thinks they make decisions slowly: 5 years after the completion of the work on our house, the kabbess is still actively (as in, daily) researching what floor to put in our bedroom. For the last five years, I’ve got out of bed and put my feet onto splintering chipboard while she agonises over this thought process.

On the plus side, she has narrowed it down to particular types of French antique oak reclaimed floorboards. On the downside, trying to identify a source for these and also a fitter who passes her stringent examination is proving… difficult.

In unrelated news, the increased visibility of female adult autism in the media in recent years has prompted certain self-revelations.

Hah! My thoughts kabbes :D

So, I was looking at wallpaper last night after your post Looby and was wondering how on earth I would make a decision 🤣

I want a William Morris wallpaper for our late victorian house, but all the reinterpretations are lovely. I was thinking the narrow hallway would be the best place to start as it's not a room so fewer variables.

Might be an idea to get some slippers in the meantime! :D

We started making enquiries about getting rid of the skanky carpet upstairs and went as far as going to a showroom, and taking home samples. This was about February 2020.

I've spent the last year trying to decide between hard flooring or new carpet and still haven't made a decision, never mind got around to going back to the showroom, making enquiries etc.

Skanky carpet being nice and warm underfoot on getting up, and horror at moving all the furniture again, unpacking bookcases etc. have sent me into a paralysis of indecision.

The samples you got will be no longer in production. :(

Looby, I absolutely love that wall paper and the whole set-up. It is kinda chintzy but in the right way. Bet it makes you happy every time you walk in the room!

I had my hideous door repainted and a cool door-knocker put on. For some reason delivery men never use it, but perhaps it's for the best, because it's the loudest fucking knocker in the world.

Great colour and I love the knocker! 😊

Thanks, I think it will too. I’m absolutely in love with it and although it’s also our spare room, it’s primarily my space so why not go a bit mad. 👍

This is something I'll never understand. I have a very solid, thick front door. Even though there's a door bell, people knock on the door. I won't hear their knocks unless I'm in the hall or possibly the kitchen which leads off the hall. The door bell is there for a reason! It's loud enough that I can usually hear it anywhere in the house. I can even take the ringer into the garden with me.

But no, they knock on the door and expect an answer. I've even walked into the hall and spotted people waiting patiently for me to come to the door even though I didn't hear them knock. If you ask them if they rang the bell, they just look confused as if it's a Herculean task beyond them to stick a finger out and prod a button!

That bit by the bottom of the door where all the render had come off - was the underlying cause identified? I note that the RH door looks like it has the water deflector at the bottom missing.

squeeeeeeeeee!

Just found this parquet floor in the half height cupboard under the stairs. Couldn't be seen before, for all the stuff in there.

The bottom of the pic is where the cupboard adjoins the living room, which has a laminate floor.

No one would have done a parquet floor in the cupboard and not in the living room, right? And no one in their right minds would have removed parquet to put down laminate, rather than covering over it (for whatever unfathomable reason), would they?

tries not to expire of excitement that I might have a parquet floor waiting to be liberated

Most likely stuck down using bitumen so far easier to cover than remove.

Ours wasn't in great condition when uncovered. Was rotten around the patio door. Took the lot up as it wasn't viable. Sold to partner's colleague for cheap.

Wasn't as nice as that, though. Good luck :)

When we sold my parents' house, we discovered that the main bedroom had a beautiful, pristine, light wood floor. Not floorboards or parquet, but some kind of wood overlaying the boards.

We didn't know about it because my parents had covered it in a vivid pink shag-pile carpet. :D
