Shameless back tonight.

It's that time of year again, and Shameless is back.

Not as excited as I usually am, because the 'serious that could do no wrong' was disappointing last year. :(

I initially put it down to the over-reliance on Paddy and Mimi Maguire storylines but towards the end I was starting to think it had maybe just run its course.

Fingers crossed eh?

"ba da da daaaa! ba da da daaa, da-daaaa!"

I'll be watching, but I also tend to agree that it's run its course now- Frank's alway good value for money, but they've lost too many key characters over the years. Never really recovered from the loss of Kev and Veronica in my opinion- an island of (admittedly volatile) sanity in a sea of madness.

mmm, may try again. Gave up half way through the last one cos it was tired shit feeding upon itself. But there's sod all else on on a tuesday...

I didn't exactly give up but I did miss a couple of episodes and didn't exactly bust a gut chasing them up on the repeats or on 4OD.

Not a patch on series 1-3, but still the best thing on TV - where else would you hear the C word in causal conversation on TV?

However, next year they have confirmed a 22 episode run, which sounds dangerously like it's turning into a soap.

what time at? 10?

10pm on Channel 4 (with the usual repeat on C4+1) and then again on Wednesday night at 11.30pm.

Next week's episode is shown immediately afterwards on E4. Not sure that this is a good idea as the temptation is to spunk two weeks worth of viewing on Tuesday night and then spend the next two weeks watching repeats or wondering if you have seen this episode before, especially if you had drink taken when you watched it first time round. ;)

I wasn't happy with parts of the most recent series either. Maybe it didn't help that we saw all the episodes in short order on DVD, some time after intitial broadcast. But we'll still be giving this a go :)

Frank is such a great character, and it's probably him which keeps me watching after they jumped the shark a while ago.

Hoping this series is better than the last one.

He doesn't know or suspect IIRC. Missed chunks of tonight so that might have changed.

He asked her why she called the baby Connor Joe and she said something about her grandad Joey and he said 'If I find out you're lying I'll ....
as though he knew something.

Frank to Mrs Doyle's mum in a wheelchair. "Fuck off Ironside!" :D

Odd moments of greatness - Kelly's speech at the baptism, Mickey giving Carl advice on how to take it up the arse :D - but it really has lost its way. Ridiculous storylines, unconvincing dialogue, even little things like Liam's accent. It was great when it first started because it was so believable and recognisable;now it's really obvious that Paul Abbott's handed over the writing duties to Shoreditch types who want to show off how clever and edgy they are (maybe that's unfair, but that's how it's coming across).

My tellybox is brokened :( Is Carl or Mickey naked yet?

oh yes

I thought it was still good, Frank falling in love with the actress who used to play Mrs Doyle in Father Ted Pauline McLynn. -

idid watch both but won't (intentinally) post spoilers

there are 18 in this series 22 isn't that muchmore - but I do wonder if they can maintain it.

watched the first half. and was so mindnumbingly unimpressed i turned over to newswipe.

it's a parody of itself now :(

"After seven kids, there's more scar down there than fanny."

Classic line from Mimi.
Heh - that was a good one :D

I agree with both these points as it goes. We'll carry on watching (WTF else is going on on Tuesday nights this early in the year anyway :D ) but sure, it's not nearly as good as it once was, etc.
