So I found this in a second hand shop a few years back. Cost me 25 quid :D

I can't be sure but I think the body is balsa wood, there is no motive on the head stock however you can just make out the letter K on the scratch plate. K were a very cheapo brand from years back. One thing this guitar does very well is feed back. I only use it for that now and usually one have it strung with 4 strings 1/6th apart. Saying that though, I haven't actually used it for a while. Its a very funny guitar to play :)

I have never had any of the troubles you often hear about with Jag's such as buzzing bridges and strings jumping out of the saddle. )

I have one too . Strings jumping out all the time, buzzing (easily fixed) and everything wanging out of tune as soon as you touch the whammy bar.
I bought a mustang bridge to fix the daft jag one, and a sort of roll bar to help stop it from going out of tune when using the tremelo (vibrato) arm. Deffo not the best guitar I own, but not the worst.

I friend of mine has one of the woolies ones (not that one) that actually sounds and plays fantastically.

This, to me, is everything thats wrong with guitars. All it needs is the pointy Ibenez head stock and we are in a whole world of shit. Vile.

It grew on me. Plus I guess I'm deviating from "good looking guitars" and into "cost £429, sounds fucking amazing, and covers any genre perfectly" territory. ;)

I have a gorgeous Cherryburst '09 Les Paul Standard. For crunchy powerchords and searing riffs, there is nothing finer.

Sorry fellas, but Strats are utter wank.

Having been a Fender user for a few decades, I recently switched to an Epi Les Paul 2010 Tribute, which is all Gibson hardware. Agree with you mostly but I think I'll always prefer Fender necks, much more playable. Fender pickups are a bit crap, when you're used to the power and smoothness of Gibson humbuckers, they sound weedier still.

WTF do all those switches do?

The top right switch toggles between two types of tone circuit (top and bottom). The two horizontal switches on the top right are volume and tone. The two knobs on the bottom left are also volume and tone, but for the bottom circuit. The three bottom right switches toggle pickup variations on the bottom circuit.

I do like the look of the thunderbird. Sounds good too, pity it's a bit rubbish to actually play :(

I have a firebird (guitar version) and it's WELL top heavy. I think it looks pretty cool but I have wanged too many switches off it and it need a damn good service anyway, crackles like a bastard and has lost it's earth somewhere.

Yeah, the thunderbird is much the same. The headstock weighs a fucking ton so your fret hand is working pretty hard just to hold the fucking thing up, not to mention fighting a ridiculously high action. Because of the shape there's no useful place for a strap button either, which doesn't help. And it's eight feet long. Still as pretty as fuck mind you. When I'm a rich rock star I'll hang one on the wall of my studio and then carry on playing my shit mexican fender jazz until it actually falls apart.

Oh go on then, here's a Fender Jazz Bass:

Even the picture sounds like pure honey roasted funk

The action is pretty good on my guitar. Where the strap fits onto the back really doesn't help with the balance problem. When I was a young lad and used to play mine live I would have it around my knees (or maybe closer to the ankles), which really wasn't helping anyone.

that /\/\/\ IS ugly!

coffeetable basses are for rich American divorcees, along with Harleys, sporting memorabilia, pneumatic 2nd wives and hair weaves.

Jazzes are great but they don't come near Precisions for in-the-mix sound, IMO. too many knobs, too much top end. P-bass=plug in and go. the other band folk will love you, too. Bass is suposed to be bassy. Or low-middy, in the case of Ps.

The old Yamaha SG2.

I'm on the market for a bass. Most of them (at least on my price range) look crap, or look good and sound crap, sadly. Much as I'd like to stay clear of Yamaha this time around (not to be called a Yamaha fetichist), I'll probably settle for this:

Of course, with my luck, I'll only get it on metallic red
