Seriously Good Looking Guitars - The Guitar Porn Thread

what's wrong with ibanez (i'll agree that the artcores don't look the bollocks, unlike that gretsch)

It's not that anything is wrong with Ibanez, they make some excellent guitars. However the Gretsch is a Gretsch. It's like the difference between a nice can of beer, and a really top class pint of <insert your favourite real ale here>, or a glass of fairly good red wine, and a glass of a classy vintage Bordeaux. Won't make much difference to some people, and will make all the difference in the world to others.

Plus it looks so bloody gorgeous I'd marry it if it would have me, and if it sounds as good as it looks, which in my experience Gretschs usually do.

i think you and suplex have convinced me, as long as I can get a sound I like out of it when I try it at the shop.

I can stick it on a Take it Away loan and it'll work out to just over a days wages each month (with a case and amp) assuming I get a new job sharpish that is

Make sure you try out some other guitars while you are there. Try something similar that is Waaaaaaaay out of your price range, something around the same price and some thing below. It would also be good to try a solid body you know you already like too, as a control.

I also hate hate hate and loathe the telecaster. I think it's mostly the headstock. I have a 71 tele deluxe but it has a jazzmaster neck and head and much cooler scratchplate and pickups.
I can't stand Teles, they're just twangy planks. I want one of these:

they do have a very nice white falcon in the shop, not sure if i'd let me touch it if I were them though:D

never really played solidbodys though, apart from bass, although my gf has a lovely LP copy made by her uncle

If ever I bought an instrument for looks alone it would be one of these. But then it probably sounds amazing too.

If only you could combine the looks of a jaguar and the sound of a telecaster

That is my actual guitar. I love her way to much. Very versatile.
I recently took her to get a new pick-up switch fitted after she fell over and the guy in the shop told my off for not looking after her as I should> I'm about to get her serviced. I love my Jag.

And I should add I went out and bought her pretty much the day after I heard Soon by My Bloody Valentine

I would say that may Jag at least, is incredibly versatile. You can't shred with a Jag, That's not what they were made for. I have never had any of the troubles you often hear about with Jag's such as buzzing bridges and strings jumping out of the saddle. Its all about how you play. If you want to shred your hardly going to go out and buy a Gretch or a Tele or Jag. Your going to buy an Ibanez or some other hideous guitar like that.
I would also like to add that while Strat's are the worst guitars known to man they DO sadly have one of the best sounds. God knows why. They are really versatile. Jimmy Hendrix can't be wrong about it. I just wish it looked better. I was recently toying with the idea of getting one because of how good they sound. Nick McCabe from the Verve uses one and must be one of only a few people now-a-days using one. His guitaring is bloody outstanding (has anyone heard his new project The Black Ships, great is you like noodling psychedelic stuff, glad he finally ditched "the Busker", They have a myspace site)

:D

I'm after one of these if/when I get another job

or this, which is utter filth (in black but i cant find a small pic) and only £120 more expensive (still less than a monkey), but I fear it may be a bit too twangy

btw, how do hollowbodied teles sound?

I love the look of the Gretch but have been massively disappointed with their sound. You need to change the pick-ups. Gretch's pick-ups are famous for being weak as piss. Love the Bigsby though.

I think I will get a Gibson ES next. I like the 355 model as you get a tremolo with it but them's is vintage and I'm not sure I can go that far although it does sound like a nice hobby, collecting vintage guitars.

I wonder if Epiphone make one like this????
