Self-indulgent pet thread

Mr. K. has had his fang out!! He wasn't too groggy when he got him home - indeed he ran round demanding food and headbutting the cat flap (he wasn't allowed out for an evening, vet's orders!) but then later he did get a bit wobbly.

He has to go back for a check-up on Friday and is on some medication for a few days. I will attempt to take a pic of his mouth as sometimes his cheek/lip kind of gets caught where his fang used to be and looks most amusing :D

That sounds a lot like Bob. He had some back teeth & 3 fangs taken out recently & he sometimes does this slight Elvisy uhuhuh look.

Herbie's not too good at the moment. Last night he had an "episode" which we thought might have just been over excited tail chasing, but at 5.30 this morning it happened again and was clearly a fit - not long, but not good. Got him to the vet first thing, blood tests didn't show up anything (except they were surprisingly "good" for a 16 year old cat!) He's been given phenobarbitone twice daily for a couple weeks to see if that makes a difference. He had one further fit about 3 this afternoon before OH could get the script from the vets.

I know all the things it could be from concussion to brain lesion or tumour, but has anyone any experience of this in kitties? Herbs is my "step tom," and I'm more au fait with rodents myself. He seems okay in himself at the moment, but there really wasn't anything noticeable before the fits he's had. Any suggestions, thoughts, whatever, appreciated.

Here's the little orange man late this afternoon, pretty wiped out from the prodding, poking, needles and (strangely perhaps) the vet's preoccupation with his arse!

He's a good looking cat. Hope he's ok. Cant help with any suggestions but youve done the right thing by getting him to the vets.

Hey thanks for your wishes. The vet's a good 'un. Successfully put back together the shreds left after my in-laws cat picked a fight with the wrong Alsation and did Herb's brother's, um "gender reassignment" after chronic cystitis, so fingers and paws crossed for the little old man in the red fur coat.

Aww ((((herbie)))) I hope he's OK :(

We've had this with our old dog Treacle - the vet couldn't be sure if it was a fit or a stroke though.
She's been on half an asprin a day for the last year or so and this has prevented any more epiodes.

Aw, thanks for all your wishes. I'm sure Herbie will be chuffed. (No, he won't, he's a cat after all!)

He had another fit about midnight, but then not another until about 5 this afternoon, after he'd had two doses of the phenobarbitone (which he hates.) Last one was milder than the previous ones. Still scary though. He's been a cuddle monster all day, which he only rarely is with me, but otherwise is eating, jumping around and doing his thang as usual. It's kind of a wait and see situation I supposed. Cancelled the long weekend away though as well be on "ginger cat watch" for a few days.

Hey, thanks again for your wishes guys!

i know people will think it's soppy but I truly believe that pets feel the same as us about being poorly. I think back when I was unwell or sad and the extra cuddles and TLC they gave me but also when they were unwell or sad how much they've wanted those extra cuddles and TLC too.

(((((((Herbie)))))))) fingers, toes and everything crossed xxx

Lovin the ferrets (but might be a conflict of interest to have the with piggies!)

Well, Herbs has been 28 hours without fitting, but he absolutely hates having the meds twice a day. He seems a bit subdued (which may be the drugs) but not all that different from normal. Sitting like a duck on the sofa half asleep at the moment. I guess we'll just keep on and see what happens. I just wish he could tell me what's going on, well in a language other than cat. Mind you, he definitely says "no" and then "Bloody Hell" before and after having the meds.

Hope all your creatures are well.

Aww, sending get well herbie vibes from here too! Hope it's just one of those things that 'happened' but never actually came to anything significant. ((herbie))

Awwww, Herb! Frustrating when they can't talk to you, innit.

No idea what's going on in Stan's mind here, but it doesn't look good.

I used to have a diabetic cat that needed injecting twice a day. He bloody hated it to start with and it was a total battle but I guess he realised it was what made him feel better (or he just resided to the fact it was going to happen) and we soon got into a routine and it was fine.

Stick with it - it'll be worth it ((((((((CRI and Herbs)))))))

My beloved Glen has finally moved in with me after a few months of separation and he is having lots of fun and being very cute. Here is a picture of the sleepy-head face he keeps doing now he is old and struggles to just wake-up-and-go :D

Sadly Graham never got to move back in with me as he died while we were apart :(

Oh, Glen is delightful! Sorry to hear about Graham. I had a Graham Gerbil - was a pink eyed white and spookily intelligent.

Wee update on Herbert. He had a really bad fit early Saturday morning - took about half an hour to recover. I thought we were looking at the end game. He's had a couple fits since - about one every 36 hours, but none as bad as that one. He's getting a bit more use to the meds. I think he's generally a bit more subdued. Will go back to the vets for review Saturday. I keep thinking if it's a tumour, it should get steadily worse, even with the phenobarbitol. But, he's an old man, so who knows. He's eating like a horse, but I think that might be down to the meds. Just hope he's happy as possible for as long as he's got. Can't be with him 24/7 so have tried to make his bedroom, the loo and the hall as safe as possible and shutting off everything else when we leave.

Sunday morning, after having a really bad fit at 4 am. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Bit subdued but otherwise much better on Sunday.
