They're incredibly intelligent, far more so than other dogs. I still get surprised by just how clever they are - which in turn means they need a lot more attention and walks. They're not a dog for the house or the city or if you're inclined to just walk the dog around the park everyday. You have to change their routine, walks and what you do with them to stop them getting bored and unhappy. Aside from that and the stamina of a shire horse, they make great pets... they're just a bit TOO clever
Freakishly clever but sometimes quite literal, we had one when I was a kid. She was trained that she had to sit down at the side of the road when a car was going past. It wasn't a problem when we were walking her through the country lanes of Cornwall but anywhere more busy was out the question because she'd just sit down and refuse to budge if there was any traffic nearby
