security check (government) for job?

I went for a fairly low grade job in the HoCs in the late 80s. Interview went well but got fucked over because my sister ran a company for Howard Marks. Wouldn't have thought that for that level of post they would dig that deep but they did. Maybe now they are more worried about terrorist connections than a dope dealer.

Oddly I'm just doing the application for a role which specifically asks if there is anything in my past, or the pasts of my friends or family, which could cause me trouble in the future. I'm going to apply in the full knowledge that I'll probably be rejected at first sift.

Good luck with yours

My brother in law’s brother had to leave his job at GCHQ cos he took up with a Chinese woman, they offered him the chance to split up with her or leave, he’s such a massive nerd that I think he realised this was his one chance in life for a bunk up and told them to do one.

shortly after that she moved abroad ?

SC gets you to see secret and occasional access to top secret. And a fetching yellow strip on your CS ID card It’s a desktop exercise. I had it for years ( and a more bespoke financial one ) despite my parents spending their 20s working for the revolution and my dad his 30s working for what was a front for Soviet military intelligence- ironically given he and my mum had been a major Euro communist and anti tankies in their 20s.

DV, they don’t seem to care what you do as long as you tell them about it- ISIS membership may be an exception. You get a green strip on your ID badge.

At the other end most civil servants just have a Basic check red or CTC check blue. The basic check just makes sure you aren’t actually wanted ( I think ) and the blue the same and that you aren’t actively on a watch list. Both give occasional access to secret. I think the CTC gives you access to a few of the more secure buildings.

Nb above may not actually reflect HMG policy.

Sorry to hear that, Puddy_Tat. But strange times at the moment and suspect we're all making slightly random decisions just now. Onwards and upwards.

(FWIW, I'd have long since walked from my current job but pandemic, better the devil your know thing. It is making me feel kind of trapped and a bit depressed but hey, I know I'm lucky to have money coming in so...just have to get on with it at the moment. Meh.)
