Recommend a fastish estate

Heresy perhaps, but I've spent the last few days driving a 2017 1.6 diesel Astra estate - it was quick, fun to drive, quiet - even at 90+ - and very, very comfortable...

Pretty practical as well - decent sized boot for four big rucksacks and reasonable legroom in the back for two blokes.

Did about 600 miles throughout Wales and the Marches on motorways, fast A roads, windy B roads, and because someone (not me..) can't map read, some where-the-fuck-are-we? No-fucking-clue-its-not-on-the-fucking-map! roads...

Nothing broke.

The times I've been in bigger Vauxhalls I've noted how they seem to be good on the motorway as far as NVH goes.

I had to hire a car recently and ended up with a Mokka; it was one of the worst cars I have driven. I drove a colleagues Astra recently, that was not to hot either, but it was about 4 years old. Never again.

After having the front arms and rear bushes done a four wheel alignment is highly recommended (at a decent place with a Hunter machine or similar.) Chances are the camber/castor/toe will be out of spec up front and rear. It might be just the toe that is out causing things like twitchiness and tramlining.

Thanks. I'll ask about this when it goes back in. :)

Only one I've driven was an Insignia and I loved it, but was a work hire car and it's rare I get to drive cars that size that are close to new. :(

The Porsche Panemera Sport Turismo Turbo must be the fastish-est estate you can currently buy. I can't think of any other estate that will do 188mph off the showroom floor.

RS6 if you get a de-restricted one, but 155 restricted, 174 for the Porky or 195 for the unrestricted Audi is a bit meaningless as when do you get to go more than 155, even on a track? The RS6 is quicker 0-60 than the Porsche and you can get a fridge or the dogs in with ease.

Porsche fire back with the "Panamera Turbo S e-hybrid Sport Turismo". 550hp (petrol) + 136hp (electric). 0-60 3.2s and 192mph. It's basically a 918 Spyder estate.

The interior is nice.

Low power on the electric side. Just a nod to squeeze into a lower emissions bracket?

The electric motor is for "torque filling" so they can run really high boost pressure without the need for anti-lag. It uses the same boost mapping strategy as the 918.

I'd love to drive one, but doesn't look like you could get much stuff in the back, which seems to defeat the purpose of an estate.

Good man, you should get an Audi like all right-thinking gentlemen do
You'll be disapoint to hear that I'm an ex-audi driver. Had a 13 yr old A4 which was banging, for a few years, then had an A3 as a company car for a few years - which was pretty shit to be honest.

Sorry it's an Audi, but it's an estate, with twin turbo V8. 0-60 in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 176 MPH. Kitted out with one or two extra's.

2017 Grey AUDI RS6 AVANT 4.0 Avant Tiptronic Quattro 5dr for sale for £71900 in Derby, Derbyshire

I wondered when someone was going to bring the RS6 up

You can get early ones for around 8-16 k

I had one for a year cost 9.5k was the fastest funnest car i’ve Ever owned.

I took it to an Audi dealer and asked for a health check, they gave me a list of shit which cost 14k :D went to an independent and he did the lot for 3k.

Only problem is if one thing goes wrong it’s at least half the purchase price to fix it, if two things go wrong you’ll need a remortgage:D

BUT FUCK ITS AN AMAZING MOTOR
