Rape, sexual assault and harassment in the entertainment industry

'Girls' Writer Murray Miller Accused of Sexually Assaulting Actress Aurora Perrineau

So a writer for the series 'Girls' is facing a sexual assault charge.

Did 'feminist' Lena Dunham take a stand against him, perhaps just say 'no comment' if she had doubts? Did she Hell.

While our first instinct is to listen to every woman’s story, our insider knowledge of Murray’s situation makes us confident that sadly this accusation is one of the 3 percent of assault cases that are misreported every year.
It is a true shame to add to that number, as outside of Hollywood women still struggle to be believed. We stand by Murray and this is all we’ll be saying about this issue

When the accused is a pal and the accuser is a young woman of colour, seems feminist solidarity no longer applies.

People better qualified than me may shortly comment, but my understanding is that not everyone reacts the same way to sexual assault, he was a big star at the time and she may have felt obliged to go along with it despite her true feelings.
?

Yes, yes and yes and it doesn’t have to be a big film star but it can be anyone with power. This whole shit about “oh, why didn’t the complainant come forward sooner and why didn’t they protest” puts the whole fucking trip onto the victim and not the perpetrator. As if there is a presumptive right to intimate social space afforded to these cunts.

One good essay I read this week made the point that too much stress in the media is being put on women posing a threat to men ('They might accuse us!') as opposed to the threat men pose to women. Gosh, makes you wonder who has the power here.

I’ve heard that shit from women at work. ‘Ooh careful getting too close, you might get accused of assault’ etc etc Urgh.

That comes from pricks with their own story. The wagons being circled.

That's a displacement tactic, and one that WILL allow men to get away with sex crimes, by dis-empowering women again. Fuck a man's right to keep on harassing and abusing women.

Hard to say much about Jones without detail emerging but I will say I hate statements like the one issued on his behalf. Over a decade ago, juvenile, other people were doing the same, ugh.

And now the awkward back-pedalling from Dunham:

Dunham sorry for comment on accused writer

On Twitter on Saturday evening, Ms Dunham said she had "naively believed it was important to share my perspective", but now accepted it was "absolutely the wrong time to come forward with such a statement".

She added: "Every woman who comes forward deserves to be heard, fully and completely."

Suprised we arent seeing many men come forward about being sexually abused by women..as a man ive been sexually abused by lots of women that have seen fit to take advantage of the handsome bastard i am :) over the years..being a vunerable adult ive found myself in a few "relationships" where ive not only suffered emotional abuse so the woman could keep me where she wanted, but sexual abuse too. Men i feel struggle to talk about their feelings more than women.

Talking of abusive powerful women, scary spice was in the papers a couple of months ago. It seemed her and her husband had used their status to "lure" lots of girls/women back to their mansion, get completley shitfaced and have sex with them. The story was then spun that scary spice was in an abusive relationship..not that her and her husband were exploiting others for sexual gratification (when drunk) which is rape..as anyone should know by now that having sex with anybody when pissed makes you a rapist as you are unable to consent when drunk. Not one single allegation was made of sexual exploitation, when that was clearly happening repeatedly..i guess scary spice has the right connections.

Pac man I'm sorry for what happened to you, but you might want to think twice before accusing identifiable individuals of being rapists.
Your more than welcome to read the testimony of some of their "victims" who told their stories of how out of it they were when having sex with them..from that you can make up your own mind..it seems ok for all these accusations to be flying round about men..but god forbid we should name and shame women.

I'm not defending them. Just not sure how sensible it is to label them rapists, from a libel point of view.

i didnt actually label anyone a rapist..i stated a fact that having sex with anyone that is drunk is rape as they are unable to give consent.
