Too much down time, boredom, thrill seeking etc. Players finish training by midday so have a lot of time on their hands. He could gamble ten grand a day and not notice it gone.
He probably needs professional help more than a punitive ban. Addictions are bastards when they get hold of you. Hope he gets the correct help if there is indeed a problem.

Well yes he needs help. But if banned then, which he was, then allowing him to affect the sporting competition for so long affects every other player in the league.
Some will lose or gain contracts based on his performance in which he shouldn’t have been able to play.
