Peckham Town FC - news and discussion

When the linesman began flagging I assumed it was to advise a reversal of the penalty award, but instead both Peckham centre banks were shown straight red cards (presumably for foul and abusive language)

Another excellent example of the genre of why giving awful people more ways to influence a game is a terrible idea. Good process lads.

Shame too about the referee. Absurd second penalty for them second half, and not giving us a clear one in the first (as he was wrong side to see the obvious handball). And once again the usual double standard - the Thamesmead manager and assistant screamed themselves to the point of apoplexia on numerous occasions, using all the “foul and abusive language” they had at their disposal… And weren’t even spoken to. But that’s okay because they’re white so it’s allowed.

It was blooming cold tonight, and despite the 0-0 scoreline quite an exciting game. The shiny new ground was rather splendid too, even if it did have astro - spit!- turf.

It's nearly 40 years since this was my team's home ground in the Saturday afternoon London Banks League, when it was the National Dock Labour Board sports ground, and I'm glad to see Cray have incorporated the original clubhouse into the redevelopment. It was just a big open field in those days with the clubhouse in the middle, 4 pitches on the side of the new stadium and another 2 on the opposite side where the crazy golf is now. There were dressing rooms for 12 teams and a big dining hall upstairs. Most other venues we played at were similar. You'd get a free or very cheap sit down meal after the game plus jugs of beer on the table. In the days when major employers encouraged and subsidised social activities for their workforce. I'm looking forward to visiting with the Hamlet on New Year's Day.

Frustrating afternoon for the Peckham Feminista in their top of the table clash with South West Saints. A 3-0 defeat was probably not a a fair reflection of our territorial dominance but it show that SWS made better use of their openings than we did. All three goals came from opposition players reacting quicker after shots were blocked. The closest we came to breaking through came at the end of the first half when the ball was scrambled off the line but we never really threatened to force the opposition keeper into a save of real note with too many shots straight at her or off target. We regroup, rethink and go ahead in a fortnight’s time when we face South London Women, kicking off at 11am on Clapham Common.

Peckham Feminista are back in LWSFL action this Saturday when they take on South London Women Reserves at Clapham Common. Kick off is at 11am. We’ll be looking to get back to winning ways after our 3-0 defeat against South West Saints in our last game. We’d love your support Menance fans!

Oh lordy. 0-2 down at half time and we're not exactly looking like we've three goals or more in the tank.

But football's a funny old game etc etc.

That was a fairly woeful 0-3 defeat with Stansfeld's players and manager becoming prime candidates to take over the Red Velvet Cup for advanced shouty shithousery.

Their goalie threw a punch at one of our players, and guess who got booked?

And I fucking hate Metrogas and their Sunday league pitches.

In better news Peckham Women got back to winning ways after our disappointing loss last time out. It was a really tough encounter with South London Women Reserves (bolstered by quite a few first teamers who I’d played against last week with Goal Diggers). However it was just the sort of opposition we needed and they gave us a real tough test. Indeed it was the opposition who took the lead with a close range finish from a low cross. Rather than getting downhearted by that we rallied & led 2-1 at the break, extending that early in the second half. SLWR pulled a goal back with a great finish on the counter and might have snatched a draw at the death but for a great interception in the penalty area. Though that draw might rewarded that endeavour it would have been harsh on Peckham as we had far & away the bulk of the possession and the opportunities. When we convert them the score could be eye opening.edb8e162-061e-4585-9f55-2c4d3759f6b6.jpeg

Gordon Bennett that was an awful game of football. Peckham were never going to score even if the opposition left the field, every player had a vast arsenal of balls to kick about and the goal was extended to enclose the entirety of Dulwich Park.*

Good to see a decent sized crowd there and the new bar is fabulous, and way bigger than I expected.

*This might be a slight exaggeration

I've got the trip to Minster pencilled in for a possible tick in 3 weeks time, as I don't really fancy Dartford with Hamlet’s miserable away form. It looks like a decent village type venue. (They're back at their own ground after a season groundsharing with Ramsgate.)

Great win for the Peckham women’s team this weekend with a resilient 2-0 victory over previously unbeaten Athenlay to move level on points at the top of Division One South, alongside their opponents and leaders (on goal difference) South West Saints. Playing uphill and into the teeth of the wind Peckham had far and away the better of the chances of a goalless first half though it took a couple of pretty decent saves from yours truly to prefer parity. Second half was a totally different affair with Bea volleying home after the defence failed to clear a corner. The second was an absolute beauty with Hiorrany’s free kick finding the top corner of the net. There’s one more game before Christmas, Sunday 7th December when we face South London Laces on Clapham Common. Should leave plenty of time to make the men’s game at Snodland Town so would love to see supporters cheering us on.

Sadly due to today’s high winds our game has been called off.
