Disappointing result for Peckham Town women yesterday, losing ground on leaders Croydon WFC after going down 4-2 to Queerspace after leading 2-1 early in the second half. The result allowed our opponents to leapfrog us into second spot but with all remaining games against teams we have beaten this season, the title and promotion are no way out of our grasp. The next game is on 10th December against LFA Hotshots, kickoff 10am

Sadly this morning’s game for the Peckham Women’s team in the London Women’s Saturday Football League has been called off due to a frozen pitch. 1670660306614.png

Definitely felt a bit rusty returning from the Christmas break as Peckham Town were beaten 4-1 by Lambeth All Stars in London Women’s Saturday League Division 2. Conceded very early with a mishit cross crawling in at the near post then a free kick deflected off the wall to loop over the keeper. With Lambeth bringing in a number of players with Premier Division experience it was always going to be a tough ask to get a result but we kept battling to pull a goal back before the break. The second half was more even but Lambeth’s experience told at the end as they added two more well taken goals to give them a 4-1 victory. The result was all the more frustrating as leaders Croydon WFC lost 4-3 meaning a chance to move level with the Trams in second spot was missed. Two games left, title might be out of reach but second spot is still there plus the League Cup competition starts next month.

Very glad to be back. Been about six weeks. The Met Office app lied to me but… I’ll take soaking for three points any day.

Peckham Town game later this morning against South London Laces in the London Women’s Saturday Football League has been postponed after Wandsworth Council informed the league the pitches were unplayable. The game has been rescheduled for Saturday 4th February KO 10am. It’s a day when the men’s team have a long away trip to Minster (near Ramsgate) whilst Dulwich are away to Weymouth. So if you can’t make those trips cheering us on at Tooting Bec makes a brilliant alternative without the stress of a long journey. No programmes or seating, unless you bring your own, but there is the added bonus of the excellent Rose & Crown within walking distance for both solid & liquid sustenance.

The title might be just out of reach but Peckham Town Women have the opportunity to climb into the top three of the LWSFL when they take on bottom club LFA Hotshots tomorrow morning at Tooting Bec. The reverse fixture saw the Peckham Feminista gain the first victory in the current incarnation but the contest was a lot tougher than the final 3-0 margin of victory might suggest. Kick off is at 10am so if the long trek to Minister is off the cards, we live to see you on the sidelines cheering us on. Menace life might not be easy but 🤬 it’s fun!!

Great win for Peckham Town Women today, beating LFA Hotshots 6-1 to leap over Lambeth All Stars into third spot in the table. The result also means we will finish the season with a positive win ratio. The title might be out of reach with both Queerspace & Croydon winning to set up a title showdown in a fortnight’s time but the result just shows how far we’ve come as a team since reforming at the start of last season. With the League Cup group stages soon to start we’re confident of a good showing in that competition and maybe, just maybe… but I’m not going to tempt fate. First outing for the new kit though the GK shirt is still on the way so you’ll have to wait to be bedazzled by my outfit!

Best performance of the season. Chipstead had been undefeated in 9 matches. That performance made them look relegation fodder. Dowding and Andres-Nieva were on fire down both wings, and moving Gabor back to midfield was a revelation. He looks twice the player in the middle. We really should have had a penalty in second half - so blatant. A-N had his ankles ripped away and their defender got nowhere near the ball.

Still convinced the Chipstead number 3 was Pat Nevin. And their captain could have been Sean Dyche’s double.

There was no combine harvester in action today but there was plenty of abstract refereeing decisions and extra super sticky mud.
Oh well I take it all back if the farm wasn’t in full swing.
I saw the handball on Twitter. Looked very handball from that angle but can imagine the linesman’s view was blocked.

Ha ha. No, his view was certainly not obstructed, as he was behind play at an angle with me. He stared at me blankly when I politely enquired as to why he could not see it?!

Frustrating afternoon for the women & for yours truly in goal. Though South London Laces are getting stronger and beat eventual champions Croydon WFC recently this is game we should have put to bed when we led 3-0 mid way through the second half. The first of some key turning points came when the referee somehow missed a blatant handball from a Menace corner, Laces countering to break through & make it 3-1. They pulled another back with about 12 minutes left then in the 8th minute of time added on after we lost 2 players to injury (injuries that left both players writhing in pain, yet ones the ref felt not serious enough to stop play until an opponent kicked the ball out) the ball was hoofed into the box. I totally misjudged it and rather than attack it allowed the ball to bounce. With the ground being so hard, it bounced up, over me and into the goal. Although the game finished 3-3, after leading 3-0 it definitely felt like a defeat. Annoyingly I’d made a couple of saves I was really proud of but that goal is what sticks with me. The draw meant we finished the season in 4th place but positive notes, we had a points return of nearly 60%, positive goal difference and we were the only team that eventual champions Croydon WFC could not beat. The league cup group stages start in a fortnight‘s time and I genuinely believe the Menace Feminista have an excellent chance of getting to the semi finals. How wonderful would it be to have Menace fans down in numbers cheering us on?
