Peaky Blinders series 5 starts Sun. August 25 2019 at 9pm

'the british union of fascists will be born on january 1st next year, the first day of a new decade' (52:30-52:40)

don't let's get into arguing when a decade starts, i think it's clear he means 1/1/1930
Timeline makes more sense but BUF didn't form until 1932 so it's going to bypass the new party altogether (shame really, would have been interesting for it to explore tentative cross over between transformative politics of left and right - also it's just historically wrong)

i point you to my post about mosley's claim that shelby had the distinguished service medal, which in ww1 went exclusively to members of the royal navy and the naval division.

I'm straying into Xena v nerd territory here but Cillian Murphy told Mosley that he was in the cavalry while every flashback shows him being a tunneler. In the wedding episode he said he hated the cavalry because he spent two weeks waiting for them in the mud. Last week or so he told a tale where the wait was cut to three days. Previously, Tom Hardy got his wars mixed up and said he killed an Italian. There's a chance they're this shoddy on purpose and are trying to rashamon the sheeple or something but probably not.

I have read that the real peaky blinders in brum were in the 1890s not 1920s and although in the series they defeat billy kimbers gang, in real life billy kimber's gang defeated them. They weren't called shelby either. So the show was always very loosly based on reality anyway.

Tommy he didn't say he was Cavalry, Mosely was reaffirming whether he was Yeomanry which Tommy didn't answer, but just replied with another question 'you were Cavalry?' (which also went unanswered).

It's possible that the two other stories about waiting for Cavalry and waiting for the Cavalry officer both happened independent of each other.

Apparently. I didn't hear his grunt properly. Bah. Still right about everything else.

It's a drama, not a historic documentary.

This all reminds me of some anoraks moaning about 'The Boat That Rocked' film, not being anything like a true life representation of Radio Caroline.

People moaned about The Boat That Rocked because it was a shit film.

I clocked that cavalry thing but thought there must be a reason for it. Can't just be shoddyness surely

Edit should read the thread to the fucking end shouldn't I

No he isn't. They won't fuck around with history that much. "Best sniper ever. Never missed."

He'll miss. Probably hit Tommy.

I caught up btw.

Oh. And loved the use of Atmosphere. You can't really go wrong with that song.
Nah it’s happening. BELIEVE!
Me too re Joy Division, enjoying all the Anna Calvi also.

Thought the Chinese dude in the garrison was a bit over dramatic.

I’m not enjoying as much as series 4 so far to be honest. They’ll have to really pull this out of the bag by ep 6 if they’re going to change my mind.

It’s gone utter piss to be honest.

The history is all over the shop, the plot is even more barmy than in previous series, it’s become self referencing, the endless slow motion walks to piss poor indie is overblown and the accents are FUCKING SHIT.

It saddens me to agree with this, but yeah all that.

Also Finn and Isaac are thoroughly unconvincing gangsters.

You knew the reason he was going to the asylum was to arrange the breakout of an old badass from his unit (nice of him to leave the chap rotting previously etc). Incredibly hostile warder giving Tommy the search empty pockets bit.

Every time I try to recall the tune for that 'we are the billy boys' song my brain supplies me with 'we are the village green preservation society' bars instead.

Just got round to watching the last one. Last ten minutes were gripping but have to say it was overall a shit season. It's always been silly but couldn't buy into it at all. Meh.

Too much of this season was plotless standing around smoking to music. You expect a bit of that in this, but long stretches of this were utter style over substance. Intrigued to see whether the decent ending will lead to a pick up next season.
I also noticed the fire blowing in the street get even more frequent and dramatic in last series, big massive eight foot flames coming from buildings every two minutes. Fuck knows what they are manufacturing in there.

I suppose if you were born and raised on a narrowboat you would have an accent that was Leicester one moment and Wolverhampton the next
