Olympics 2024 - General Discussion

They got it together thereafter. But I still think we’re about half an hour away from Murray’s retirement

caught up with a colleague yesterday who went to Paris for the first weekend and saw the men’s sevens final, apparently the atmosphere was insane

Now watching Dan Evans and Andy Murray in the tennis quarter finals, they are 0-4 down in the first set which isn’t a great start
Evans could probably just use a bump...

Eight miles from the medieval cathedral Notre-Dame, the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame are making history at the Paris Olympics.
As of late Tuesday night, Notre Dame would rank 10th in the medal standings if it were a separate country, behind Canada’s six medals.

little indiana pride there? :D

Finally managed to finish watching the women's gymnastics all-around, in between packing for holiday/chivvying children/handing over cat care/taking youngest to drum lesson/overseeing dinner. Totally worth it, an incredible final. Pure joy at the end there, and I love the respect and enjoyment among the top competitors.

Thank you Andy Murray for all the great moments over the years. What a wonderful career. 🫡
Indeed. And how many more Slams he would hace likely bagged if he’d been born ten years before or after, we’ll never know. Still, we tennis fans have been spoilt rotten with him and the other three for the last two decades :)

BBC coverage is annoying me. Just been watching the BMX on Olympics extra, then some boxing came on which I didn't fancy watching. So switched back to the main BBC feed and they were showing.....the fucking BMX I've just watched.
I learnt my lesson doing that yesterday. Just best to keep on the main channel and they eventually show nearly everthing with British interest.

I had the same. Very annoying. I was really enjoying the BMX but I don't need to see the same coverage twice.

A friend of mine showed me a tweet another mate had sent him which was suggesting - or stating as fact - that the Paris Olympic were a flop, hotels were empty, tickets hadn’t been sold etc and this was due in part to Paris being full of immigrants but just as much due to the fact it was a cashless Olympics 🤦🏻‍♂️ The author of this bullshit was some Australian right wing politician. Scary how this shite gets spread about and taken as gospel by people.

Be a shame when the swimming finishes even though the athletics will be kicking in. The atmosphere in the pool has been unbelievable just on TV, must be something else experiencing it in person. All thanks to the home crowd going absolutely nuts for any French swimmer but particularly every time one Mr Leon Marchand has appeared.

He's done his bit by winning everything as well :)

TBH, the swimming crowd are annoying me with the "scream when Marchant surfaces and then go quiet when he dips in the water." The best crowds I've heard so far were the men's K1 canoeing today - I doubt canoeists have ever heard crowds like they did today - and even more so, Jeanjean's second run in the BMX freestyle y'day.

And so to Friday...
Stade de France athletics begin 0900, mostly qualifiers and multi-discipline event components. Jack Laugher and Anthony Harding in the men's 3m syncro diving 1000 (gold in Rio), annoyingly at the same time the men and women's rowing pairs. Women's trampolining 1250 (silver in Tokyo). Swimming finals from 1930. Men's 10k 2020. Men and women's BMX racing 2035 - NBN's don't fucking miss it event of the day. Can't get enough BMXing, easily the star sport of these games for me

lots of events on after the final, women's, marathon. Water Polo, cycling, volleyball weightlifting, with the very final event being the Women's Basketball Final
