I don't know if you realise but there are a few Irish people in the UK, plus their offspring, who might have been interested in this fight.

Is that why Guinness is so rife

Ah, she looked a bit disconcerted when he said she hadn't cried, like she'd done something wrong.

Great Olympic story, Nicola Adams.

quite amusingly, coming back to our campsite the last two days, the tubes are full of people, happy, jolly and sober. Today, they were full of people happy, jolly, and pissed out of their heads

There was an absolutely incredible atmosphere there today. My ears are still ringing. A great performance by Adams, schooling a favoured opponent. Taylor was less spectacular against an opponent with an extremely defensive mentality. Shields was again very entertaining.

Interestingly the overwhelmingly Irish crowd was earsplittingly behind Adams. Not grudgingly or even just out of respect for an excellent boxer. They were openly partisan. The British minority were loudly behind Taylor too:

Despite Taylor being the pro or am undisputed best woman boxer pound for pound, and despite Adams brilliance in completely destroying a world champion who had generally had the best of things against her previously, I actually thought that the substantially rawer Shields was the most entertaining boxer in the Olympics, male or female.

That's lovely, because I've read reports of people saying that whilst the British are backing the Irish as well, it's not been reciprocated, and knowing so many Irish, I wasn't really believing those stories 100%

Irish fans tend to loudly cheer against the English football team. But that's not generally the case in boxing, where the local scenes are quite closely integrated. But that Integration aside I was still a bit surprised by the volume with which the Irish fans were cheering for Adams. And it really was overwhelmingly Irish in there. It was loudly and vociferously pro Adams the whole way through. The FT article about
the fight even mentioned the Irish support for Adams - and also mentioned that the support stopped just short of sImging God Save The Queen.

Adams of course did herself no end of favours with boxing fans of all nationalities by setting out with murderous intent and providing a lot of entertainment.

I've been to hundreds of boxing shows over the years and I've never heard anything like it. It was my 3rd trip to the ExCel since it started and it was by far the loudest of the 3 aswell.

I'm about a 10 min walk from the ExCel which has been cool, I pass the Peacock on the way too

I was meant to go tonight too but am not going to go now as I'm off out with my missus to watch some events on a big screen. If I had tickets for this afternoon's session I would have gone.

Barnes on now.
