Sad, but not unforeseeable.
Aside from the fact they contributed to each others falls from grace and the destruction of their carers - I bet pilow talk has been bitter as fuck as of late - it must be a bit like couples who divorce when they get to retirement, as it's only when they've got nothing else to do they they realise that it was the out-of-home demands on their time that stopped them getting on each others tits.
I know that all political careers end in failure, and that Sturgeon had her faults (and who amongst you doesn't, I mean I'm perfect, but I'm special...) but I really liked her. i knew her vaguely at uni, and she was a friend of a friend of a friend when she was an MSP - I gave her (as FM) a briefing on potential MOD support to the Scottish Government during the early days of Covid, she'd read all the briefing papers, asked good questions, and was absolutely on top of her job. She knew who I was, and we had 15 seconds of catching up - but afterwards she actually wrote to me to say hello properly.
I've always been really impressed with her - if your world turns to shit, she's one of the few politicians you want turning up on your doorstep 5 minutes later.
Sad.
