Also watched Leave the World Behind and liked it a lot.

I liked it.
It has very mixed reviews on IMDB but that just confirms my viewpoint that not everyone "gets" things.
If that makes sense.

Yeah I think if it was one that absolutely everyone got it would be a bit crap for being too blunt. I think it's effective as some people can think they've just watched a one dimensional apocalyptic film and then continue merrily about their day.

I enjoyed Leave the World Behind.

I think that like 99% of modern films, it would have been better for being 20 minutes shorter, which could have been achieved by just shaving extraneous bits of scenes here and there. It felt like it dragged, which was a shame given how well done it all was. But pretty good — a solid three stars.

Just watched Blood Coast, sort of a French The Shield, but based in Marseille. Really enjoyed it ,gritty with echoes of La Haine and some good plot twists.
I've watched a couple of episodes with a French friend, so with French audio, French subtitles. Found it quite fast-paced and hard going. Will probably rewatch with French audio and English subtitles.

It is quite hard-hitting. Promising start. Good so far, from what I understood.

I also watched Wingwomen recently, I think the original French title is Voleuses (women thieves). I enjoyed that. It was a gang of thieves caper, done with humour.

I found Wingwomen easier to understand than Blood Coast, as the latter seemed to be faster-paced speech, with more people speaking over one another, and more slang.

It’s like a cross between Team America and The Hangover.
I read something that likened it to a crossover between 24 and The Hangover, but I think your elevator pitch is more accurate.

It was laugh out loud hilarious in parts, it was very over the top, entertaining nonsense.

Btw even though it's funny, if anyone's watching it, bear in mind that some scenes are very NSFW and while Team America and The Hangover were both rated 15, I think this would very definitely be an 18, so exercise caution if you're thinking of watching it with younger or older family members over the Christmas holidays, ie don't.

I really enjoyed it too. And I liked the ending. Could have probably left out all the animal stuff but I didn't think it was overly long.

Yu Yu Hakusho. A miniseries adaptation of apparently one of the most popular mangas ever (apparently, I’m not familiar at all with manga).

Not having read the source this is based on I can’t comment on how good an adaptation it might be, but as a fantasy action series we really liked the first episode. Great fight choreography, and a good pace that makes it very watchable.

Really enjoying Mo.

Comedy drama about a guy trying to make ends meet in Texas and not having papers, being an undocumented immigrant... sounds grim but it's quite heartfelt and genuinely lol in parts.

If you like Better Call Saul and/or Atlanta - this might be your thing.

Plus very bingeable, each ep only 25 mins or so.

I quite liked lots about Leave the World Behind but its pacing sucked and sometimes it was as subtle as a brick. Three and a half out of five.
I loved it. Very often seemly slow pace bothers me, but here I found it not just spot on but actually an integral part of the film’s enjoyment and build-up of tension.

I also think it helped to read here and elsewhere people talking about the ending being disappointing. Perhaps because I was expecting something shit, I actually thought it was fine. More so when you read about the book it’s based on, which is equally ambiguous and doesn’t answer a lot of the weirdness that takes place either.

In fact, unless one is hoping for a cheap cop-out twist ending that tries to explain everything in a satisfying way (which imo would be all but impossible given the storyline), the film could have not ended any other way generally speaking. The Friends theme actually brings a satisfying kind of conclusion to a story that by its very nature doesn’t have a conclusion at that point.

For me this was weirdness done right, in a similar vein to the stuff in some of the early Fargo series, including suggestions of the Devil or UFO cameo appearances, which should not work but does because the writing is so good.

The ending was perfect, for so many reasons.

The build up of tension was spot on.

The bit that let it down was it dragged. A bit And not in a tense way. Just in a “this is really quite a long film given that very little actually happens” way.

RE Leave the World Behind. Elon Musk makes a cunt of himself once again :D

(film spoiler ahead- don't read if you haven't seen the film yet)
I didn't think they were chasing anyone, I thought they were just all programmed to fill up and block the road ignoring all other cars (including other teslas)

My wife and daughter love this. . . I think it's a stinker.

I don’t think anyone including Musk was suggesting otherwise, though?
I was quoting the link you posted that said that that was what happened. It's like the people who wrote the article about how musk didn't watch the film didn't watch the film either.

As a standalone product, or compared to its source story? I am actually not the biggest fan of the demon fantasy genre and have never read any manga in my life, so not naturally a go-to entertainment show for me, yet I found it surprisingly gripping.

Unless I misunderstood the whole thing, the joke was that Musk posted a reactionary post to the film in which he said Teslas wouldn’t be affected by electricity blackouts because they can be charged by solar power units. To which people rightly replied online that Musk’s comment was completely irrelevant to the film and suggested he clearly hadn’t watched it, since the Teslas featured didn’t have any use with power but with being hacked.

My wife knows the original manga, and I think my daughter might too (she mentioned that the guy with a thing in his mouth was supposed to be a baby).
I am personally sick to death of bloody endless demon fighting and magic fighting heros. B O R I N G.
But Japanese TV had taken over and I am in the minority. Kimetsu no yaiba, Vivant, Akuma kun. . . I think I have to wait for them all to finish, then we can get back on with Hilda. . . though I probably got more out of than when my daughter was a little younger and it served as an all round family friendly watch.

Jesus man. Read the flipping link you posted. It's not long.
Yes that is correct, the link says that Musk is wrong because the cars are still operational. . . . . but the link goes on to say the cars have been programmed to chase people . . . which also is not correct.

but he clearly has not watched the film. In Leave the World Behind, these Teslas can run fine – they have just seemingly been hacked to chase people.

Ah, fair enough. I hadn’t even noticed it when I read the article, as I was drawn to the headline. That’s shoddy journalism for you :(

I’m also increasingly bored by the genre, just as I am by similar genres that we’ve being overbombarded with, such as zombies, monsters, infected apocalypses and superhero wares. But I guess one can still be pleasantly surprised if it’s done right. We went into it with very low expectations but ended up bingeing it.

Goes to show that if done right, anything can be compelling even if you don’t care about the subject matter, such as The Queen’s Gambit or the film Tetris turned out to be for me.
