if it ha it had a little more budget for the special effects and the world it created did not have the lived in look was my old downside from it

Chernobyl looked like it took place at the real site and was more chilling because of it realistic take

on the 4th episode .. sorta like a BBC production

not bad and does a good view into the story

but it's no Chernobyl so

I don't think you can compare the two really. Apart from both being about industrial accidents they're worlds apart, with Chernobyl focussing on the efforts to shut down the plant, and TRm more of a human thing about the dedication of the rail workers to their passengers. We've only seen 2 parts of TRm though.

I'm not sure how far a big special effects budget would have worked to improve The Railway Men tbh - part of what was so horrifying about it was that it was a mostly invisible thing that just overcame people quite quickly.
That is to me a very frightening thing, and I think the first episode portrayed that absolutely brilliantly. The focus on very ordinary rail workers is also not something that requires a huge special effects budget, and is a great way of depicting the events in terms of the personal viewpoint of a few people.

it a look a fell for the show more than harrowing special effects just an aesthetic

not slagged the actors or the events of the show but it could of worked as a play or stage production the world did not looked live in to me. is what I mean

Personally I despise the desaturated tones and almost chiaroscuro lighting in films and tv dramas that has become popular over the last decade or so.
I prefer this approach - if that is what you are referring to. (Not sure I understood!)

if you prefer that approach that up to you as said just felt it lack a sense of how populated around 850 thousand people in 84 and run down that area of the India was in 1984 just distracted me a little but it an aesthetic complaint not and if at the shows itself

We’ve just finished Blue Eye Samurai, and I make no apology for plugging it again. It is simply fucking superb, and I am once more compelled to urge anyone put off by the fact that it is an animation to give this the benefit of the doubt. This is all about the quality of the writing and the storytelling, which are as gripping as anything I’ve seen this year regardless of live action or animation. An actual 10/10 from me.
I don't like the computer aided animation style and of course the story so far is somewhat generic, but I think episode one was pretty decent.
I would say that the end of episode one shock reveal was the least surprising reveal of any show ever. I had assumed all along that the viewer knew it was a woman . . though did suspect as it wasn't heavily signposted that it might be a 'surprise' at some point. Would have probably worked better in manga form without a woman obviously doing the voice

But yes, in general good enough so far for me to put my book down. Shorter episodes would have been better perhaps.
Certainly better than the squidgameshow.

It's the best American take on anime, that's for sure.

hmm if you watch the trailers they give the secret away in the 2 minutes

the story is fair less generic that half of the produced agminated shows

Yeah, I never thought for a moment the twist was ever meant for watching audiences, just for the characters. I mean, it’s blatantly obvious.

Ultimately it’s a great revenge story and a gripping thriller. It could have just as easily been filmed as a live action series imo- which is why I’ve been urging those who aren’t into animation to ignore the medium in this instance.

Can't imagine it as live action. It's very anime, which isn't a bad thing. It does borrow from wuxia and other Eastern genres and there's a slight feel of Game of Thrones meets Kingdom... minus the supernatural element.

It's gorgeously rendered, which is a real draw...

I've been really enjoying this, main criticism from me would be the soundtrack. There's a couple of scenes where they've chosen tracks that really jar - just watched episode 6 (I think?) and the music in the fight scene was trying to be too Tarantino-esque, I thought. It sort of works but just doesn't feel right, given the historical, Japanese setting.

Oh yes, I remember they played 'battles without honor or humanity' during a fight in episode one. That was very jarring.
It's actually the theme from a Japanese yakuza film (before it was lifted for kill bill). That was a really odd music choice.

ah
