More railways.. (model railway)

Nice images - real and model ...

I noticed a "birdcage" brake in the sidings.
Rolling stock images will almost always get my interest - at two levels, I spent quite a few years guarding on preserved railways, but only with "duckets" never a "birdcage". More recently, I have tendered for work to restore a couple of birdcage brakes - one van and one carriage, but didn't get either project.

Several have been preserved / restored.

1001 - NER Birdcage Brake

This needs some work as it has been outside for many years and didn't get the tlc / painting it needed

And

1001 - NER 831 (birdcage)

Luckily, although partially dismantled, this is in dry storage and easily restored - just needs the money & willpower to make a decision to place the contract ...

The longer these things are left, the more they will cost, especially in materials and wages ... not to mention disappearing skills.

/ sorry, to derail thread - this is a hobby horse of mine ...

I've been having a tidy because of approaching engineering works. Bus services will be in place during the works. Planned alterations to the hidden storage yard are scheduled. Each of the scenic modules can be removed and put on the opposite side so I can work on them or the storage yard.

That Hamburg one is obviously impressive in scale, but it's not really aimed at those who appreciate the finer points of railway modelling. In that sense Mumbles274 's project is a more proper one and when it's done will have a sense of atmosphere that you'll not find in the flashing lights and hectic motion of the miniatur wonderland.

This is quite something.

Even though it's modelling an era I don't know, and even though the model's not fully complete, and even though I've maybe been to Liverpool Lime street 4 or 5 times - I can instantly recognise the station, in form and atmosphere. Really excellent work.

Found a few pics of some bits from my dads layout construction, I've got a load more somewhere but can't find them yet...

track build.jpg
Track under construction. It's designed using Templot, then everything built from scratch, including the crossing V's.

slip.jpg
Double slip, note it's on a very gradual curve, getting all this within P4 tolerance is not easy.

3 way

lever frame.jpg
Lever frame to operate the points, again scratch built, complete with interlocking frame. The handle locks on each lever are also fully working.
