More railways.. (model railway)

Maybe nogojones's car would look more fun with some tags and stuff on it. They'll get paint all over the windows and headlights and things, but nogojones won't mind tidying up after them.
To be honest, it wouldn't bother me. I can't be arsed to fix the boot that keeps opening and beeping and I've never fixed a dent, scratch or even ever cleaned a car, so I'd treat it as a handy hint as to where I've left my otherwise grey and boring car in the carpark

Let's wind this back to the start. Imagine you're a railway preservationist, you've spent untold time restoring an old coach to its best, and then you come in and find someone's tagged it. Are you going to be happy about that?

If not, why are you trying to defend the people who do it?
If we wind it back my first comment (Probably the first comment I've ever made about a train - ever)...

I don't really care much about trains (or model ones), but I get much more joy from a graffiti'd one than one that has it's banal corporate branding all over it. It's just joyless corporate graffiti
I think I can safely say I stand by that comment.

As for these old steam trains, I can understand why someone who spent their weekend off painting and polishing the wood and coal would be a bit upset, but I can also see how a tagger who spent their weekend clambering over fences and shit would be pissed off if some train enthusiast cleaned off their tags.

I'm just not that invested over the look of trains (or cars/planes/ boats/bikes.....) to care. I'm still quite shocked that I made a comment in a toy train thread. I never expected it would cause such distress

So you're not bothered if you can't see through the windscreen.

I prefer to see through the windowscreen for obvious safety reasons, but it would take a particularly stupid tagger (not saying they don't exsist) to cover one as the train would be going nowhere 'til they cleaned it off, so no one would really see their tag (apart from the cleaner)

So, you don't disapprove of vandalism ?
If I actually knew them, I'ld send the twunts who did a friend's greenhouse (hint: the plants inside need light to grow) to do your house in the same moronic manner.

How about if they tagged the village war memorial, or your gran's gravestone ?

City near me has some walls kept for spray can "artists" - one moronic tagger (and the tag was ugly as fuck) sprayed his shit in all sorts of stupid and dangerous places. The cost to the ratepayers - and building owners - to safely clean that crud off was several tens of thousands of £££s, Which assumes that council had plenty of money - they didn't and still don't have money to spare for unnecessary crap when there are things like potholes to fill, schools to maintain and older people to be cared for.

As you can tell, this is something I feel strongly about ...
Artistic work, in the proper place, is very welcome; I'm all in favour of murals and the like. It's the moronic tagging to which I object.

Distress? No. Withering contempt for taggers and people who defend them? Absolutely.

Besides, it's not only about trains, is it? Part of my job involves managing a historic building, and on several occasions we've had to spend scarce time and money painting out or cleaning off tags. Why should we have to put up with that?

On the scale of awful things happening in the world, I feel it's not that high on the spectrum. Sorry :(

Sorry that you and your building have to put up with that level of disrespect, Roadkill

no, in wider scheme of things, graffiti may be considered a minor problem by some. but it is something we can have control over. and should exercise that control.
If you must tag, do it ibnisde your own home.

Sorry for the thread derail ...

back to topic.

I was doing some research yesterday, and went down a bit of a rabbit hole / serendipity hunt.
I had absolutely no idea just how incestuous the model railway manufacturing side is - as in who owns which brands !
[nearly as bad as the inter-connections between the narrow gauge railways, especially in Wales]

I think I've found a new house for you Mumbles274

The house is only £1,950,000 but you'll have to pay extra for the railway.

nice "Feltham" tram in the left foreground
I had the pleasure of driving Met331 / Sunderland100 in 1989 / 1990.
(It had very snappy air brakes, as I recall)
