Angry crowds confronted the police in Milwaukee on Saturday night, setting fires and throwing rocks, after an officer shot and killed a fleeing armed man earlier in the day.
One fire, at a gas station in the Sherman Park neighborhood, burned unattended while gunshots kept firefighters from extinguishing it. Other fires burned at an auto-parts store, a beauty supply company and a bank branch.
One police officer was hospitalized with a head injury after a brick was thrown through the window of his patrol car, Mayor Tom Barrett said at a news conference early Sunday morning....
same auld story
so next year on the mark duggan march there'll be at least one more placard demanding justice for another dead black man.Yup how convenient.
not that fucking concerned about his safety then.
US police killed or injured an estimated 55,400 people during legal stop and search incidents and arrests in 2012, reveals research published online in the journal Injury Prevention.
Blacks, Native Americans, and Hispanics had higher stop/arrest rates per 10,000 of the population than Whites and Asians. And Blacks were by far the most likely to be stopped, and then arrested, the data show.
And they are more likely than Whites to die at the hands of the police, but when stopped or arrested, they are no more likely than Whites to be injured or killed during that incident.

Philly Cop Exposed as Neo-Nazi After BLM Protest Photos Emerge
One of the more interesting cases was that of Ian Hans Lichterman. Lichterman was listed as a member of Blood and Honour, an international network of Neo-Nazi organizations started by Ian Stuart Donaldson, the lead singer of Skrewdriver. Upon some investigating, it was discovered that Lichterman was also a Philly PD officer who had even recently been commended at a crime stoppers awards ceremony.
Shortly after the hack, Lichterman left the Philly PD and was working as a private security contractor (mercenary) in the middle east for some time, presumably using his connections from his time as a Marine. Recently, at the Philly Coalition for REAL Justice’s march during the DNC, someone noticed that one of the bike cops working the event had some shady tattoos. That cop has been identified as Ian Lichterman, back on duty in Philly.
South Florida police fatally gunned down a black man as he sat in his backyard eating dinner, calling into question the lack of de-escalation tactics of local law enforcement officers amid national scrutiny. ...
i know i shouldn't be, but i am continually surprised by the depths to which the police descend.
Officers ordered Frazier to get on the ground, to which he responded, “Leave me alone,” according to his nephew Quartaze Woodard. When order to the ground once more, Frazier gave them the same response. Police then opened fire, according to Mr Woodard.
Police handcuffed the wounded Frazier, before attempting to perform CPR. Officers reported that Frazier was dead at the scene...
yeh, not wanting to be sacked may play a part in the killings.
It's this sort of thinking and language that is part of the problem. He was later informed that his cHe was later informed that his contract had been terminated, because by not shooting Williams he had “failed to eliminate a threat”.
It's this sort of thinking and language that is part of the problem.
The main problem of course is that cops are cunts.
After responding to a report of a domestic incident on May 6 in Weirton, W.Va., then-Weirton police officer Stephen Mader found himself confronting an armed man.
Immediately, the training he had undergone as a Marine to look at “the whole person” in deciding if someone was a terrorist, as well as his situational police academy training, kicked in and he did not shoot.
“I saw then he had a gun, but it was not pointed at me,” Mr. Mader recalled, noting the silver handgun was in the man’s right hand, hanging at his side and pointed at the ground.
Mr. Mader, who was standing behind Mr. Williams’ car parked on the street, said he then “began to use my calm voice.”
“I told him, ‘Put down the gun,’ and he’s like, ‘Just shoot me.’ And I told him, ‘I’m not going to shoot you brother.’ Then he starts flicking his wrist to get me to react to it.
“I thought I was going to be able to talk to him and deescalate it. I knew it was a suicide-by-cop” situation.
On June 7, a Weirton officer delivered him a notice of termination letter dated June 6, which said by not shooting Mr. Williams he “failed to eliminate a threat.”
[The city mentioned two other incidents in firing Mader, but it seems clear that his failure to kill Williams was the motivation for his termination. Even the rare cop who gets fired often gets to keep his pension. Mader won’t be getting one.
I know what you mean, but from reading the article it sounds like this guy mainly posted a danger to himself. The cop was trying to defuse the situation and safe the guys life. Which is what they should be doing in my opinion.I'm the first person to call a cop a cunt, but I'm not sure where I stand on this.
The guy that got shot was pointing a gun at the cops. There's no way they could have known it wasn't loaded, so they had to assume it was a loaded gun. What should they do in such a situation?
If someone was threatening me and my friends with a gun, and I also had a gun, I'm pretty sure survival instincts would kick in, and I'd try to eliminate the threat.
There's no way the cop could have known the gun wasn't loaded, and surely his first priority should have been to protect everyone (not just his colleagues) from someone waving a loaded gun around.
I'm not suggesting he should have been sacked for not shooting the guy with the gun, but once the gun was pointed at other people, surely it was time to eliminate the threat?
