Middle-aged man, I want update image/clothing, where do I start?.

See the equivalent of toast or jigsaw or whatever for women is whats needed for guys. As a middle age woman you can go on the website, have absolutely fuck all idea about style (like me) and provided you have a net income of about 50 grand a year you are sorted (if you don't then you can get yourself on eBay and buy the same brands second hand stuff which is what I mostly do now). But for men? What is the equivalent?

but.. the men who stand in the background next to women who wear boden and jigsaw frocks, they usually have pastel cashmere jumpers draped over their shoulders like twats, don't they?

I can tell you that the kabbess rejected most of Freddie's offerings on the grounds that they would be too figure-hugging for me and whilst I have now lost enough weight to fall on the more flattering side of the ideal BMI range, my shape is still a bit like a frog suspended by its neck, which means tight-fitting tops and trousers don't tend to be the best.

She doesn't blame Freddie for this, by the way, but is convinced that I will have answered the initial questionnaire wrong.

I'd say Oliver Spencer is the closest I've seen, or Folk, or Nigel Hall.

I don't understand this strange new half-mast-and-no-socks world we're apparently living in.

Don't their shoes get all sweaty? And don't they get cold ankles? And doesn't it look... well... a bit like they bought the wrong size trousers?

(Thank you, by the way. I will have a look through these websites.)

I've just been on the boden website to check for you. Seems you are right.

Yeah i think j Crew is a good equivalent - they don't have shops in the Uk though do they?
edit: i see they do now.

Ha, I was going to post the Private White site, their clothes are lush. Tried a pair of their workpants on the other day in TK Maxx and they fit beautifully.

The injustice that you are not a millionaire really strikes you when you see clothes like that. Def get the maxx ones! Then post pic!

Och, the choice of it all. Wouldn't it be easier to live in a world where we were all mandated the same grey jumpsuit?

the only issue was that the zip was broken and they were still 30 quid. But fixing a zip is a £10 job so they're probably still worth it... I'll have another look at them this weekend.
