Mazda Owners thread

Given my car has an FM radio and CD player, with no other connectivity, I feel well spoilt and more than I would need in the Mazda, but you never know.

My Volvo had a cassette player (as well as a dash CD player and FM radio).
I patched on a Yatour MP3 device that emulated a CD changer which would play MP3s from folders on USB/SD card labelled "CD1" to "CD6". Was a useful way of adding a bit more up to date technology. It also added an AUX port.
They make them for older Mazdas too.

The very best thing about Mazda's is going to Mazda dealerships, they're special.

Took mine in for its 1st service the other day, haven't had a single problem in its first year and only done 8k miles, so far so easy. Collect car, no report of any problems from the service. Jump into it the next day as was off to meetings on the other side of London. "Your car is not fitted with Satellite Navigation", bearing in mind the model is called 'Sports-Nav'.

Back to dealership.

- "Is this the same SD card that came with the car sir?"
- "No, I have a stock of them at home which I just rotate. Anyway, I think you've replaced the wrong card during the service"
- "No that's impossible sir, anyway lets plug the card into the computer and find out. Oh we can't do that because the Mazda online toolbox is designed to work with Windows 8 and we run Windows 10"
- "What?" Anyway I've got a job to do, please call me when you get your shit together"
-
"Hello sir, we've fixed the problem. It was with the SD card, it was corrupted (or to put it another way, 'we must have put the wrong one back in')."
- "Sigh".

You know, the BMW dealership in Chiswick has a Costa Coffee in its service area which is free to use and they do a service in 40 minutes. They haven't even got ac at the Mazda dealership and they forgot to vacuum in the boot.

The new AUX unit I bought from China doesn't seem to do CarPlay on the non-Chinese CMU :(
The cables are probably still usable, and the AUX unit works in that I can charge from the USB ports etc, but no sign of CarPlay when I plug in my iPhone.

I didn't run all the cables through the console etc, just plugged them in. Hey ho,

don't polybush will ride like shit.
#notallpolybushes

I PB'd my Alfa 156, because the (relatively complex) suspension components wore out regularly. It didn't worsen the ride quality. I think it's very much dependent on the car.

Kind of. Double wishbone at the front, so more complexity and thus more wear on individual parts.

The Facebook Mazda 3 Owners Club group is a scary place. Full of people lowering their Mazda3s, tinting their rear lights, swapping in garish wheels, replacing their headlights with laser beams, swapping engines etc.

Usual results are hideous.

Someone on the Mazda3rev forums has posted guides for all compatible Mazda models for the official Android Auto/Apple Play units for self install with correct part numbers!

https://mazda3revolution.com/forums...ding-retroactive-upgrades-64.html#post2402979

I may ask an indie garage if they can get the parts and install. Someone in that post a few posts above has said his main dealer says ball park figure of £500 in the UK. I don't understand how difficult it is to announce a UK price when installs in Europe are now happening, some in the region of 250Euros.

Yeah, the guides are extracts from the workshop manual for the relevant panel removals for each model plus the model-specific cabling. Getting the hub and CMU out is actually the easiest bit, the panels by the gear shift and hand brake is quite awkward as there are loads of clips.

I'm seeing reports that even the TK78 66 9U0A hub from China isn't working with the v70 firmware :(
The German place which is shipping the upgrade parts to end users doesn't list the UK as a possible destination.

I seem to have bought a Mk.2 6 speed manual RX-8 with a blown apex seal (compression down on two lobes). The chassis has the same torsional rigidity as a 911 apparently.

Not before time, I am finally looking to get a space saver and was thinking about Tyreman wheels | Tyremen
or the wheelshop Mazda CX-3 - English

Anyone know anything abour either?

Hows the autoplay upgrade going and is it worth it?
I have recently been driving a brand new VW and the sat sav is so easy to work. Wave you hand near it and a list of options pops up. Select new destination. Input address or postcode and job done.
So much easier than the Mada!

EU Firmware is now available - MEGA
UK price for the upgrade has been announced as £350 Mazda rolls out Apple CarPlay upgrade

I'll watch the forums a bit this weekend and see how people get on and maybe try mine. Hot weather is always a good time to be struggling with bits of car :)

Haven't got around to buying the correct part or paying for an install. People who have seem pleased. Not using the car enough to justify it at the moment, but that might change as my job is supposed to be moving.

Ditto, it's more a want, than a need. The inbuilt sta nav is gash, I tried to use it once, and never again. Stick to my phone, but don't use it enough to warrant paying for the full upgrade.

I tend to leave the navigation screen up, but not use it for routes.

It sometimes shows traffic jams on the map, but I've not got a subscription to the service so I'm not sure how it's doing that. Witchcraft possibly.
Or Bluetooth via my phone.

Had MOT today, bloke says nothing to worry about so all good I assume, I check the paperwork when I get home and have advisories.

Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):

  • Nearside Rear Road wheel slightly distorted (5.2.2 (c) (i))
  • exhaust coroded
  • Front Brake disc worn, but not excessively (1.1.14 (a) (i))
  • Offside Front Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Anything anyone would get sorted before the next MOT or just carry on driving until something is clearly up/or fails next MOT.

Are Mazdas any good, generally? I have a dealership near me (and being rural, car choice out here isn't great) and I might consider buying a two year old car. What's reliable/not reliable about them? I don't need a fancy car, just one that works and will do 12,000 miles a year without causing me grief.

Any modern car is pretty reliable, especially Japanese ones. They usually come out quite well in reviews. I got Mrs Tags cx3 because it felt much better quality than the others in it class and looks a bit better. I don't like the sat nav and Mrs t thinks the ride is hard and noisy. Boot is smaller than similar models.
