Lunch should have its own thread

Not good. I used leftover pilau rice to make egg fried rice. No spring onions. Too many flavours going on. I'm sure there's some biscuits in the house somewhere.

mmm, massive Friday treat lunch from the very worthy veggie cafe next door - a stodgy potato and spinach bake thing with 4 salads on the side *pop*

Celery soup done with home made children stock. Sourdough baguette with gorgonzola and leafy salad.

Oh my lord. Just had THE best lunch ever, in the world. Leftover spinach and ricotta lasagne, plus a big bowl of cheapo noodles drowning in leftover red pepper and tomato soup. Fuck me. And now I have a nice cup of camomile, and a big box of proper turkish delight to tuck into.:cool:

I love how happy food makes some people
Sad but true - I spent years not having enough food and being hungry due to family skintness.

Now that I can pay for my own, it makes me ridiculously happy to indulge my taste buds and belly. My mother STILL comes out with the 'I eat to live, but you live to eat' line at me, still trying to guilt-trip me

I have no appetite at the mo and it's rubbish.
Aww - I didn't eat much when I was duffed either. Everything made me feel sick. The ONLY thing I ate for the first 3 months was Alpen. Seriously. Brekky lunch and tea - it was all I wanted and all I could keep down.

I hope your appetite comes back soon chick

Ah, it's not that... I'm all fulla coldy/fluey/bug thing at the mo and can't taste anything - so food seems pointless :(

pulled pork and bean soup thing from Pret. Was very nice but very salty :hmm: Since then, have also had an apple, a flapjack and an oatcake. And i'm bored now but think i'l have a cup of tea before i end up starting on the chocolate biscuits behind me

This one is from HFW's Three Good Things. I was reading it last night and had it for an 11am snack.

Toast (ideally home made bread)
Plenty of extra virgin olive oil spread on the toast
Salt
Finally drizzle honey on top.

Bloody hell. Tastes amazing!

I have this recipe memorised, I sometimes chuck in finely chopped spring onion and garlic too:

http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/9978/mexican-bean-burgers-with-lime-yogurt-and-salsa
Quite similar to the one I used to do - but can't find the sodding recipe for anymore!

This salsa's a fucking killer to go with it too. I once made it the night before and travelled to a bbq next day, by which time it had turned into total rocket fuel :D :

Ingredients
15ml (1 tablesp) olive oil
2 cloves garlic, peeled and sliced
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 sticks celery, finely chopped
1 green pepper, de-seeded and finely chopped
3 red chillies, de-seeded and finely chopped
1kg (2.2lbs) British Classic or Plum tomatoes
2.5cm (1") root ginger, peeled
Juice of one lime
20g pkt fresh coriander, finely chopped
5ml (1 teasp) caster sugar
Salt and ground black pepper

Serves 6

  1. Heat the oil in a large saucepan and sauté the garlic, onion, celery, green pepper and chillies very gently for 15 minutes, until softened.
  2. Meanwhile, peel and chop the tomatoes.
  3. Take the saucepan off the heat, grate the ginger coarsely and squeeze the ginger juice into the pan. Add the lime juice, tomatoes and coriander and stir well. Season with sugar, salt and pepper.
  4. Leave for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavours to develop. Serve at room temperature.

Spaghetti with olive oil, chilli, garlic, lemon and prawns. And loads of salt and pepper. A vast improvement on yesterday's lunch of cold chicken wraps.
