Lunch should have its own thread

Flatbread wrap with fried halloumi, tomato, cucumber, radishes and rocket, with beetroot on the side.

This is the kind of positive thing that happens if you go into a Turkish supermarket.

I have found myself eating really crap, disgusting food sometimes lately and enough is enough.

I've started having Sainsburys help yourself 'salad' bowls for my lunch. Way cheaper than pre-packed ones from Eat/Pret etc, plus you get to choose exactly what you want & how much of each thing. I get the medium sized bowl for £1.99, & it seems to be more than enough to keep me going if I stick in an egg, various beans and a bit of couscous/rice/pasta etc amongst the salady stuff.

Bought some salt beef my local offie had in their fridge & was wondering how it should taste so went down to a bagel place by Old Street a mate had recommended. I think I'm in love, must be my Jewish heritage, but this was one of the best things I've ever eaten. Bagel, mustard, salt beef, gerkins. Amazing :D

Fried the salt beef and put it in some spelt & sunflower bread, then added sliced cornichons & Dijon mustard. Absolutely disgusting. The beef was as tough as old boots and so salty I retched. Straight in the bin :(

Jam sandwich to take the taste away.

No more salt beef for you then...?

I had homemade spicy parsnip soup which i made last night and probably drove the neighbours mad with my insanely noisy blender. It was amazingly delicious. Ate too early though and will need a second lunch in an hour or so

I wonder why, hot salt beef sarnies are the best. :(

At most unis here lunch is free for staff...it's only because mine is government that we have to pay. I'd rather have had a bag of crisps actually :) Especially skips.

McDonalds  The shame! I was stuck in a car with a sleeping baby and not enough time to go home for actual food before having to head out again, so googled the nearest drive-thru. Felt like a total pawn of capitalist oppression as I sat in my Ford Focus chowing down on a dirtburger. It was quite tasty though.

I think it was probably the rubbish off cut they'd salted, and badly done at that. Definitely not put off, it was lovely, but will buy from decent places when out and about and will at some point have a go at making my own, it doesn't look too difficult.

Gilbert's is a pretty decent brand. M&S does salt beef too which isn't half bad, it only sells it in North London though afaict. Gilbert's you'll get in most places that sell kosher stuff.

Cheers, didn't know that. Does it come pre-cooked? :)

Living the dream! Not just an aspirational middle class lunch but the lunch of a fully paid up member.

Home baked ciabatta. Served with a single estate olive oil pre mixed with a rich balsamic vinegar - decanted from a reused mini Ecover bottle. Gutted that I left a wrap of Maldon salt at home - I resisted substituting the wrap of salt with a similar looking product for the sake of the picture!

Unfortunately I had to lower the tone with a coffee brought on the train - I forgot to pack a flask and I was saving my beer until closer to my destination.

^^^Something about having food in a cleaning bottle doesn't sit right with me

I'm not sure yet - the cafe I usually go to have been put on my shit list as the chef was a prick to me this morning. Will go to mate's cafe but it's a longer walk. :)

STARBUCKS?!?!?! ;)

today I had a garlic brussel sprout and red pepper fritatta. was actually not too bad.

although I think I might have overdone the sprouts now this year and it's not even xmas yet :(

Fish and chips and a bottle of Doom Bar.
Looking at the grey drizzly winter sky, all that was missing from the experience was eating it in a shelter on the front at Weston Super Mare...

Oooh, that would have been lovely!

We went over t'hill to Buxton and had cheese and apricot/ginger chutney sandwiches, and a chocolate and black cherry meringue. I could do with a nap now.

A what?
Good grief, I badly want one of those. Or ten, more like.

It was divine. Chewy in the middle, rippled with cocoa in the meringue itself, and with swirls of alcoholic black cherry stuff and ice cream sandwiched in it.

pimped beans.
beans plus a small potato onion garlic mushies capers an egg thrown in at the end with the heat off and the lid on.
a little fish sauce and hot smoked paprika for seasoning.

Sigh -you're like the good version of me.I get the £1.99 Sainsbury salad bowl, stuff it full of various pasta and rice salad things, and wonder why my 'salad' lunches are not making me slimmer. The egg looks a bit scary, so I avoid.

Went to the caff for a massive chish and fips. Fresh from Billingsgate this morning, best cod in batter I've ever had, lovely.
