If you lie and are found guilty you are very unlikely to be prosecuted. Even if you have introduced fake documents during the case.
 
Nope. He was the prospective parliamentary candidate in a seat where the sitting MP (a Tory) died, IIRC. He was shoehorned through the constituency selection committee by Conservative Central Office. The seat was lost to the Tories, because the local constituency didn't fall in behind Taylor and support him, but Taylor never actually held the seat.
