london's worst clubs

I loved the Manor Club. I went to the goth/indie night there a lot - the Catacombs. It was on the first floor

Catacombs!! Yes!!! I'd forgotten the name of it. We used to get off the bus at Turnpike Lane to go to the Queens Head for some cheap booze before going there - wow - fun times!

Yes, great little place. The contrast between the bar at the front and the club at the back was classic. Great memories of opening a door and finding myself sitting in the middle of the slaughtered lamb.
The gents toilets always used to overflow & there was a distinct smell of piss. Saw some good bands though.

Just saw the Vice article, we're famous
Shame they couldn't get Caesar's chariot in there.

There is actually a club in Muswell Hill at the moment advertising itself as something like 'hang out with classy people and London's trendy club'. It actually uses the words 'classy' and 'trendy', which have basically meant the opposite of that for nearly three decades now.

I don't know why Village Underground is doing so well ?
Went to a gig there. Terrible acoustics, overpriced drinks, heavy security, weird layout. I guess it's just geography, Shoreditch innit.

XOYO by comparison is a paradise.

Yeah the sound system is XOYO is pretty damn good, went there this summer for a Benji B Deviation gig and the sound was just incredible, mind you he does normally bring his own system in so that could have played a part!

I think a new contender for worst club has to be the Great Suffolk Street warehouse carpark.

Porta-loos, a table for a bar, puddles and rain dripping every where, really dodgy security.

Anyone been?

Yes, the system is shite in there.

It did, yes - iirc there was a Tardis at street level or something, this is going back years though. It certainly was a doorway to another dimension though, you suddenly found yourself in a whole world of shit :(
why did you not tell me about this when i first moved to london and was living in golders green? please tell more.

I remember when XOYO first opened, it was so shit I actually had to go to the promoter afterwards and ask for a refund.

terrible system, no lighting/production, dickhead security. basically everything that could have been wrong, was wrong.

it got bought out after a few months by the Columbo group, who own the Nest is Dalston among other things, and from what ihear things have improved dramatically. It is still in Shoreditch though, closes at 4am, and has the smallest smoking area known to man.

Interesting, I never went in the early days. Saying that, decent clubs in London in regards to Sound, Lighting, Security are few and far between these days IMO, there are only really a handful left....

Fabric & Ministry for the big spaces and Corsica Studios & Dance Tunnel for the smaller spaces...I really can't think of any others that have high grade sound, there are others that are passable but none I would put into the elite category.

true unfortunately. Any decent club/rave night they have at Koko is probably the best, if you are inclined to like the music of the night. Good old Camden Palace still has it, albeit pretty rarely, due to the majority of the nights being gigs.

Electric Brixton (the old Fridge) is still quite good.

I was looking at a night at the the outdoor bit a few weeks back and there were loads and loads of reviews saying that have a really dodgy door policy. It seems that they quite like to piss people off. It was enough to put me right off going anyway.

This was one of the articles I read - Raving With Racism – My New Years Experience
in which case what a shit hole - GOOD that it burned down - scum

wouldnt put it past being an insurance scam

used to be pub, the green man, at 394 high road n2 just on the se side where the a1000 crosses the a406. always looked a bit shit so never went in it tho passed it a load of times. then around 24 years ago it burned down, shortly before the new flyover was built. the feeling among those members of the licenced trade i spoke to was that it was an insurance job.

For some unknown reason guys have twice taken me to the Granneries in Croydon, on the first occasion I was nearly turned away at the door, I think I was wearing Dr Martins boots, but the second time round I dressed appropriately showing as much flesh as possible and wearing dainty shoes, I swore I'd never go back again, especially as I was also given a glass of Canai and was expected to drink it...
