Living off the land 100%

I'm cheering for you Stanley, good plan I like it - much better than hanging out in ibiza for another year.
When you find mussels you have to let them be in a bucket of seawater for a few hours, they'll sit there cleaning themselves, else they'll be all gritty.

Neither of those. It was growing close to a drainage ditch mind. Very pleasant smell. However, it is far too similar to the links you provided, so has hit the bin. Thanks.

Talking of Hemlock and the like. This event is currently being prepared here. These medieval fayres are huge in Northern Spain, and so it seems in Northern Portugal. Loads of time, work and money goes into them. Big business and a very lucrative festival circuit for itinerants to follow. Plenty of clearing up work, and good recycling from the campsites that spring up around them.

I have nothing better to do than research questions pondering my mind.

I was wondering why this village is so wealthy. In the central plaza is a portrait, ceramic mural created to mimic cork tiling. This reminded me of a story I once read about Portugal's richest man whose family built their wealth on corks for port, sherry and wine bottles, so I Googled...

It is a portrait of the very man himself. All is explained.

He died just a few days ago. This could explain the sombre atmosphere here as well as the extraordinary wealth of the place.

Odd but true - the one thing i ever got caught shoplifting was a smallish block of cheese, about a hundred years ago, i think it was in spain but not entirely sure.

as some of you will know, i have become increasingly obsessed with the lives of the 7th and 8th Century Saints of Northumbria - Oswald, Cuthbert, Aiden, Wilfred etc..

to celebrate the lives and works of these giants of the faith, i have decided to walk St Cuthberts Way, a 62 mile trail through the March of England and Scotland, and to honour their travails i shall do so barefoot, dressed in sackcloth, eating only rough bread, sleeping under the stars and drinking only springwater with no water puritabs and not boiling it (trusting that the LORD will keep HIS SERVANT safe from the dangers of sheep shit.

i was therefore wondering if any of you knew of any good hotels along the route, and possibly a baggage transfer service?

you've already gone wrong by looking at a map

It's just about melon season in the south ( weather is very different from the north, no rain here since April and non expected till October) too early for figs , almonds and pomegranates still plenty of lemons and oranges though. Peaches are ripe. Plenty of tomatoes , grow like weeds here . Oh and it's sardine season.

Cool bananas. I spent some very happy hours meditating on St Cuthbert's Island some months ago. It is indeed a 'thin place' - IME.

I didn't do it barefoot or in sackcloth though, sorry. :(

It did genuinely rock though.

I would really like to walk St Cuthbert's Way or similar though, in a proper pilgramistic style.

I'd pack & plan properly though, rather than relying on theft and pity, and putting rescue teams at unnecessary risk.

me to - i love the area, and i've been inspired by Max Adams Land of Giants - i'm thinking about doing it in August on the way back from Glasgow, but i'd prefer to do it in the Autumn. i may even do the pilgramistic style thing as well - staying in only 3 star hotels..

i actually would do the causeway to Lindisfarne barefoot. i'd like to do it naked, but given the experiences of the Naked Rambler, i'll keep my junk covered around major tourist attractions.

have your children hold towels to screen you while you walk it

If you timed it out of season, and took the traditional route (the more pragmatic route has changed due to shifting sands etc), I reckon you'd be okay. Possibly more research needed though... and maybe a friendly email to the local PD.

Now you mention it, I definitely see the appeal. Not sure why exactly, but it's definitely not a 'salacious' thing - due to the magic of antidepressants I have zero libido and so am pretty much asexual for now. Makes me top billing for monkhood lol.
