Lib Dem Polls - How Low Can They Go?

From twice as many votes as the Tories to less than a quarter of their total. In six months. In a seat where they were second to Labour, who fucked up so badly they lost to Respect. Marvellous. :D

I've read the "How to post as moon23" guidebook twice and "stylish" isn't mentioned once. If it's mentioned in the 2nd edition it'll be a 100% gain for the Lib Dems.

Have we done the Lib Dem resignations from Rochdale and Wolverhampton councils yet? Seven LD councillors in Rochdale resigned from the party, allowing Labour to take minority control. One LD in Wolves resigned and voted with Labour allowing them to take control

Let's have a by-election result:

Kent CC, Dover Town
* Lab 1491 (43.7; +14.3)
* Con 1348 (39.5; -4.3)
* UKIP 404 (11.8; +11.8)
* LD 170 (5.0; -21.9)
* Percentage change is since June 2009.

Looks like the Tories losing some votes to UKIP as well as Lib Dems disappearing

From three-way marginal to behind UKIP. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. :D

analysis of nick cleggs approval rating from that yougov link...

-30% overall approval rating
-27% approval rating with lib dem voters from 2010 election
+54% approval rating from people saying they'd currently intend to vote for the lib dems in an election called tomorrow

comparing his approval rating from 2010 election lib dem voters, 4% say he's doing very well compared to 36% who say he's doing very badly, so his poor approval rating is heavily scewed towards the very badly end of the scale as well.

essentially to me this looks like fairly clear evidence that the loss of 60% of the parties voters from the 2010 election can be firmly laid at Nick Clegg's door.

51% expect their households financial situation to get worse over the next 12 months, 74% believe the economic situation in this country is bad, and 58% are less optimistic about the economic situation than they were last christmas.

these are fairly damning statistics, that indicate a collapse in consumer confidence that's almost certain IMO to mean we're heading straight back into recession when combined with the reduction in government spending.

£300k bombproof car to protect Nick Clegg from protesters

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has been given a £300,000 armoured Jaguar to protect him from anarchist protesters.

After the election the Lib Dem leader was seen going to work by Tube and being driven around in a standard *family saloon.

But as protests have erupted over the coalition Government’s policies, *especially much-hated plans to increase student tuition fees, officials have *decided to *increase his *security.

Clegg now travels everywhere in a bullet- and bomb-proof Jaguar XJ with two police officers – a driver and a guard – plus two back-up officers.

The taxpayer-funded car has the highest level of armour available, known as B7, which is used to protect major terror targets such as *Israeli Prime Minister *Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Jaguar has a direct intercom link to Scotland Yard’s control room and can resist attacks with AK-47 *assault rifles, CS gas and even hand grenades.

Mr Clegg’s *security *arrangements, which also include elite police at his home 24 hours a day, are estimated to cost at least half a million pounds a year and make him the most *protected British Deputy PM in history.

A major *security review was *ordered after *police were caught off guard by the intensity of anger and violence during *student fee protests.

A police source said: “It is *unprecedented for a Deputy PM to have this level of *protection. The level of *personal hatred *directed at Clegg has not been seen since the days of *Margaret Thatcher and the Poll Tax riots.

“It’s not just him, either. All the senior Lib Dems in the Cabinet have had their security reviewed and *increased because of the level of public loathing.”

It is believed that Business Secretary Vince Cable, Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander and Armed Forces Minister Nick Harvey have also been warned they are likely to be *targeted by protesters.

They have high profiles among Lib Dem ministers for their roles in forcing through swingeing budget cuts.

Several Liberal Democrat ministers have had dog dirt posted through their letterboxes and even death threats. They have now had security briefings, their post is checked and some have had panic alarms installed *at home.

Security expert Dai Davies, former head of the police unit protecting the Royal Family, said: “This is the first time a Deputy Prime Minister has needed this level of *protection. Considering the threats, probably by *anarchists looking to make *trouble, it is *something to be taken extremely *seriously.”

When he *became Prime Minister *David Cameron got rid of *police *outriders for his *official car to cut costs, but his *security has been stepped up again.
