Has anyone heard of a singer called Sía...... Im not generally into singers, but she captured my imagination a bit..... some of her lyrics are pretty dark for the world of pop too.

Love her, she's worked with a lot of other artists for years too. Listening to her wrenches my heart at times.

How about Billie Holiday - Gloomy Sunday on a different tip. Nicknamed 'the Hungarian suicide song' and supposedly linked to over 100 suicides including the person who composed it.

The Associates covered it, amongst many others, but the typically strung-out vocals of Billy Mackenzie (one of those 100+) don't quite make up for the inappropriately perky musical arrangement:

Not gonna lie, dodgy political views/links aside, Bennett made some absolutely propulsive noise under the Whitehouse moniker. The same can't be said for his Cut Hands project, which is just m/c ethno-appropriation of the highest order.

This sounds absolutely brutal in a club.

Not me - it takes a while for the carrier pigeons to get news of the charts out to my neck of the woods.

I just gave a couple of songs a go on the steam-powered Youtube. It's ok; offputtingly infested with autotune, though.
