League One 2022-23

the cup run continues.

and a tricky away 3rd round match against the mighty stevenage to come...

I get to trot out the Wednesday Saturday joke. Likely another spanking, avoid injuries and loss of morale as fixtures after kinder.

Shit as the pizza trophy is, a win in that midweek probably helped. Salop today who are apparently master shithousers. Need to be looking for a win as where else will we find one? Couple of young prem loanees in for the right positions, hope they can add something but bit of a crapshoot with kids however good the pedigree.

Going to be a long old season, Shrews not all that but haven't had to be as once again soft goas served on a platter. Stats look good mind, bar the one that counts. Gah.

Ipswich and Portsmouth looking good so far - Wednesday inconsistent as ever. Went to my first game of the season on Saturday to see us get stuffed by Barnsley. Very disappointing - journey back to London always seems twice as long when we've lost.

Didn't manage to stay up for the game last night, sounds like we got a bit lucky with the equaliser just on the stroke of ht but then earned a very decent draw from our pov with a good second half showing where both sides went looking for the win. We seem to have done well in the loan market, plugged the obvious gaps.

If Wickham stays fit for an extended period (perhaps unlikely) you're obviously going to score goals. He's too good a player for this level if it weren't for the lay offs.

We managed a decent bounce back after the Barnsley game - Ipswich at home on Saturday looking quite tasty.

Yeah, he's at the age and fitness where people moan he doesn't seem to do much but then he puts away pretty much anything comes his way and one thing we do do is make chances, so hopefully see us right. Back three were solid too last night but rare we get them all on the pitch together and the replacements are a real drop in quality.

Argh, lost our first relegation six pointer of the season by conceding at the death and from a former player. Was all looking so bright when we led against the run then seemed to be kicking on.

Arse. Town throw away a 2 goal lead against Wednesday. Sketchy refereeing apparently but it seems our ability to finish off games still hasn't improved.

You’re not wrong about the ref - abysmal. Draw just about a fair result IMO - although we didn’t really get going until being two down

Table shaping up after everyone has played 9 or 10 games.

I am really surprised to see Oxford where they are - saw both home and away games last season and they did a number on us both times.

I think this is a bit exaggerated - mainly by Joey Barton who I assume is chatting a lot of shit to sidestep the fact that Bristol Rovers look to be in trouble.

We're not master shithousers, but we do like a bit of handbags and some silly red cards.

Anyway, you got your win!

E2A: sorry, realised you're not talking about Vale. Good luck, see your manager probably should have stayed instead of going to Watford.

Just had DoF poached too. Going to be a long old season, we we're beyond awful in the telly game last week. Another six pointer today with Button.

Good luck! I've bet against you but good luck.

Desperate, conceded early yet again and were lucky to go in only one down, somehow manage a well-taken equaliser second half, then pen too and their man off, should be able to see this out against rock bottom Burton. Not us though, still manage to lose. Burchnall probably has to go, it's not working out. Players missing and not a great squad but there's just basic stuff not happening, defending and whatnot.

Wednesday ground out a win away at Port Vale on Saturday - only seen youtube highlights but seems like the kind of game that last season we would have drawn.

Plymouth away this evening - would be very happy with a point.

All the top six have at least 2 points per game - there's got to be a bit of a stretching out at some point though.

Well last night was very Wednesdayesque.

Give away soft opening goal - tick
Go on to play really well, dominate away from home but miss several clear cut chances - tick
Decide to play safe in last 15 minutes, take off two best players, play for a point - tick
Give away winner with seconds left on the clock - tick
Meltdown on message boards - tick

Billy bonus win against Bolton. Been dire and desperate for weeks then make a bright start and dig in to hang on, slice of luck included.

Expected to lose away at Posh but second half performance a real concern again. Decent for the first half hour, then conceded against the run but got back level but ultimately fell apart. Injury list also ever growing and that with a small and inadequate squad to begin with.

Two nil up thanks to set pieces and a poor Vale showing at eighty minutes and still contrived to chuck two of those points away. Fair play Vale woke up and piled the pressure on but we'd invited it despite having about the worst defence in the EFL. So a point more than I was expecting but still a disappointment.

omg

although i must admit, my initial reaction to going 2-0 up after 30 minutes is "oh bugger, there's plenty of time for us to end up losing to a dodgy goal in the 96th minute"

Depressing outing against a competent but average Barnsley, barely registered a shot and lucky to lose by just the two. Doom and gloom.
