You're right. Those people are probably expressing genuine remorse, because they've been brainwashed. Does anyone honestly believe that the same thing isn't happening in our own country? Do people think their beliefs have any basis in fact, or are we merely basing our decisions on 'facts' that have been fed to us by the media? Media that's paid for, and controlled by the people who stand to gain from its content?
Do we honestly believe we're less susceptible to brainwashing than those 'poor brainwashed people' in North Korea? We only 'know' what we're allowed to know. How are we any different to the North Koreans?

I genuinely don’t think it’s acceptable to draw parallels with someone being a cunt with them being overweight. This is not virtue signalling, it’s getting rightly ticked off with associating someone’s weight with their morality.

Indeed. We are all susceptible, as humans, to the dominant ideology. NK just happens to have a less subtle one to that which we live under. Here the vast majority of people see capitalism (if they even know it's called that) as inevitable, as the only way. In essence that is no different to the belief system of NK, who are told their way is the perfect way, the only way.

By all accounts, he lives a very decadent lifestyle. He lives like virtually no other North Koreans live. He's a bit of a throwback to an older time here when it was mostly only the rich who could afford to get fat.

I read a story from a defector that, as children, they would be told by the teachers that the Kims had a medical condition and that's why they were fat. They felt it needed explaining cos the kids had never seen any other fat people.
