Italy v Costa Rica (Group D) Friday 20th June 2014

If you think two remarks that a team registering its worst world cup performance in living memory were 'deeply average' you'd better buy some ear muffs when you to to a real game then because people say the most beastly things. And maybe look away from some of the threads here because some may feel England's performance was a lot worse than 'average.' (See post #109)

Anyway, I'll leave you hyper-hyper sensitive types to it.
As I said in the very post you quoted, as well as others, it wasn't so much what you said, but the manner you said it.

To be quite honest, I don't think I've been that sensitive, just taking you to task for once on one of your sly little digs. And even then you had to try twice (sorry, no, you were responding to something weren't you, what was it again?) and then being all coy and indignant about being called on it :D

well. fuck. me. Form book totally ripped up. Amazing achievement by costa rica - their citizens must be pinching themselves.

What's costa rican (;)) for

"group of death? I shit it"

Makes england's exit slightly easier to take now that the humiliation will be shared with uruguay or italy.

Really looking forward to that game (hope it's on the telly as they would normally have the England game on. Probably on BBC/ITV3 or something?).
definitely will watch that one over england v costa rica...ive seen enough england games for one summer thanks...like you say, hope its on...will be online in a worst case

I think Italy wilted in the heat in this game...i wouldnt rule them out against Uruguay and i think they go through on a draw in that dont they because of goal difference
Interestingly I think both Italy and England felt the effects of Manaus in their second games more than in Manaus.

Italy v Uruguay could indeed be a very interesting game. I'll still probably watch the England match though

good comment from Thierry after the game, when the topic of how England didnt have any top class players he said that the Costa Ricans didnt either, but what they did have was superb organisation and teamwork. Bang on, and thats where England really fell down, just werent a drilled and disciplined and organised team. Nice to see team work winning out

sucker!!!

yeah it really was hot at this game, and this was the early day fixture too...italy looked like they were playing in slow motion from start to finish, and just couldn't build up a head of steam after going one down

Yup, been the truth for fucking years. Honestly don't know what it is that stops us putting a team together like others manage to. I'm sure there's a whole number of factors that you really need to be much closer to the squad to understand.

what about this: pick a squad and play more friendlies with that squad, not the constant mad shuffle experiments that friendlies are...

jsut an idea

not just a squad, but a first team. Pick a first team and give them at least 6 months playing together solidly in friendlies, only actually dropping those who've shown they aren't up to it.

England always get to tournaments looking like a side that hasn't worked out how to play together yet, hoping to muddle through until they might click after a few games. We should be being prepared so that the team that goes out are ready to play together properly from the first minute of the first game.
