Italy v Costa Rica (Group D) Friday 20th June 2014

Robbie Savage there, giving hope to all 30+ year old international players - keep practising, and one day you could be like Pirlo.

 :D

Apparently Dyke has confirmed he'll be in post until 2016.

So the next two years will be fun

It'll be the same old story. Players like Osman and Townshend will string together three good games in the Premiership, get lauded by the press, get picked by Hodgpotch, play decent and then someone else will come along string together three good games in the Premiership, get lauded by the press, get picked by Hodgpotch and then....Phil Jones will still be in the squad.

I just walked in to see the goal-line techie confirmation of the goal. Thought Italy would have been couple up.

Anyway, more importantly, is that the sound of Robbie Savage I hear on the commentary? :):):)

Commentry's better on 5 live. Darren Fletcher and Jason Roberts.

So, could be countries with populations of 3 and 4 million populations going through in this group.

I think it's a trend that the gap is closing, both at club and national level.

At this WC it's also seemed like a number of 'big' nations haven't been up for it, whereas the smaller nations (who have the quality) have been well up for it. A phase, or a more significant change...?

So essentially we wanted to swap our first two matches - first match against a Suarez-less and awful Uruguay, then second against an Italy who are apparently always shit in the second game.

Or is there something to the fact that it was Costa Rica who have beaten them both times?

Costa Rica have made them both look shit by putting a bundle of pressure on them by working so hard off the ball.

This game just highlights just how deeply, deeply average England are.
Yeah, you said that already.

Might also be that Italy haven't played as well today as they did against us, or that Costa Rica are a better side than you're giving them credit for.

England aren't great, we get that, it's not like we've thrown easy matches either.
