Insurance company CEO assassinated in New York

If it is him, that's his life done. He'll be spending the rest of it in prison.

Well yeah. Amidst all the levity it’s probably worth remembering that this guy has ruthlessly murdered a father of two, in arguably the most cold-blooded way imaginable. He’s going to do massive time, quite rightly, despite what we may think of the victim.

It looks like they’ve nicked the right bloke, and if he’s of sound mind he couldn’t seriously have expected to get away with this, so it’s going to be fascinating finding out why he did it.

According to the graun, he has an interest in Ted Kaczynski.

Uncle Ted would be so proud.

I was a little disturbed by the portrayal of his reading materials. Good god, I have worse than that on my shelf, which starts at Ted Kaczynski, travels through the SAS bombmaking manual, Derrick Jensen*, and the Earth First's tree-spiking manual.

* I do not condone Jensen's anti-trans stance.

You're probably right. The victim here was a man who is even wealthier, so he probably won't get a break on the charges.

Regardless of anyone’s wealth, unless there’s a diminished responsibility thing going on, the fact that this whole gig seems to have been highly planned and executed and there’s clear video evidence of him pumping the bloke full of 9mm bullets, would probably rule out manslaughter.

Lots of reviewers are complaining about rats at the Altoona McDonald's
  • Users left reviews for at least three McDonald's locations in or around Altoona, Pennsylvania, with dozens of people leaving one star ratings and complaining about "rats." Others more explicitly called out "snitches."
  • The critical Google reviews parallel social media reactions, many of which valorize Mangione, who is still only a person of interest and has not been charged in connection with Thompson's death.
  • "This location has rats in the kitchen that will make you sick and your insurance isn't going to cover it," one reviewer wrote.

Amazon etc. have removed listings for Deny, Defend, Depose merch

There's a very detailed article on the Mail website this morning with details about his health condition and possible reliance on shrooms to treat his pain after sufferrng a horrendous back injury

New York has charged him with second-degree murder instead of first-degree for some reason, though the shooting was very clearly premeditated - if that's the most serious charge he's convicted of and sentences for other charges run concurrently he could be eligible for parole in 15 years.

It doesn't look like there's any element of the shooting that would allow federal murder charges, if there was I wouldn't be surprised if he was sentenced to death and executed before Trump's term is up

no death sentence in new york state so unless they move the case. :hmm:

I can't be bothered to find whatever social media platform it was on but there was a review he wrote of Kaczynski's book basically talking about how the unabomber would have seen himself as a revolutionary who saw that peaceful or economic protest didn't work and who had to take matters into his own hands.

Sounds like motive to me.

From that Mail article

But the most intriguing is a review he wrote of the manifesto drawn up by 'Unabomber' Theodore Kaczynski, who planted bombs which killed three Americans before finally being caught in 1996.

'He was a violent individual - rightfully imprisoned - who maimed innocent people,’ Mangione wrote. ‘While these actions tend to be characterized as those of a crazy luddite, however, they are more accurately seen as those of an extreme political revolutionary.'

'When all other forms of communication fail, violence is necessary to survive. You may not like his methods, but to see things from his perspective, it’s not terrorism, it’s war and revolution.'

You know 'Logan's Run' when people get killed once they reach the age of 30? Imagine a world where people got killed if they accumulated more than a pre-determined amount of money and didn't share it?

Would society be better for it? Potential for an interesting novel there.

If the American health system wasn't so fucked up, 'Breaking Bad' would have never been made.

I feel really conflicted about this. I hate that I like what this young man did. Murder is deplorable and yet, there's a weird sense of justice in there. CEOs make way too much money, and to make this much money and profit from something that should be available to all, without the risk of bankrupcy, is deplorable too. Worse still, to deny the health care that people pay expensive premiums for? It's about time something got done about it.

If this had been a war, then a soldier has just killed an enemy general. He'd be a hero. I think he kinda is. The American health system seems to be as evil as warmongering - in the way it's driven by profits and doesn't care about people's lives.

I’d bet a small sum of money his defence team will go for whatever the New York State equivalent of manslaughter due to diminished responsibility, unless they go big and go for the not guilty by reason of insanity equivalent.
