Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick unlawfully approved a £1bn east London housing development so Tory Party donor could avoid £40m bill

He stole the 40 million from the public so as far as the tories are concerned it's just 12 grand in the bank from nothing.
You'd think he would give them a bigger payoff though, even Blackbeard shared out his loot in a more equitable manner.
I actually doubt Jenrick was even expecting that donation though, he was doing a favour for a mate, it's just out and out nepotism as far as I can see.
I also doubt there will be much if any comeback either, this (not for the first time) reveals one of BoZo's ugliest personality traits, the overwhelming belief he seems to have in that he and people like him are 'special' and are allowed to do things that the lower classes aren't

He might step down until this has died down and emerge Phoenix like to take some other cabinet role before the year is out. It’s as if we accept that politicians are corrupt and we cannot be arsed any more. They know it. We know it.meh

What happened then? Did the BBC just choose not to publish them?
Well, yeah. Why would they want to publish them in the first place? What news value do these photos have? That Desmond is a prominent tory donor is already part of the story - what do some old pictures of him with Boris Johnson add? And what legal mechanism would the Tory Party use to prevent them from being published, should they want to?

That's the thing that amazes me the most about this story. If you're going to betray your principles, at least do it for a massive payoff. Even I could afford a 12 grand bung ... does anyone need a housing application approved?

They probably threatened a strike of BBC journalists.

Yeah, when Ecclestone bribed Tony Blair he slapped down a cool million to get his exemption from the cancer stick advertising ban.

That he got it all back when Blair got rumbled is another matter...

Nobody honestly believes 12 grand was the only bribe here?

No. But I do believe that twat Jenrick probably isn't getting anything personally from it, well not at the moment. I reckon its such shit level of corruption that he did it for the party coffers alone plus probably some future favours.

The cunt seems to have form for this kind of thing, the above link is for a development at Sandown

My jaw did progressively drop at the different first three paragraphs of this:

A business minister has suggested voters could consider attending Conservative fundraising events if they want to raise planning issues with MPs, after the property developer Richard Desmond lobbied a cabinet minister at a Tory party dinner.

Nadhim Zahawi said the communities secretary, Robert Jenrick, had done nothing wrong as calls grew for Jenrick to resign after the release of documents showing he “insisted” a planning decision for a £1bn development by Desmond should be rushed through to reduce costs by £45m.

“There is no smoking gun here. The intention was to get more housing built, quickly, for people who really need it,” Zahawi told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme about Jenrick’s decision to approve the Westferry development in east London, overruling earlier planning decisions.

“There is no smoking gun here. The intention was to get more money into tory coffers, quickly, for us who really need it,” more like.

Don't get yourselves worked up about this. Nothing will happen, just move on.

:/

Of course not. Even if he does resign he'll replaced by someone equally corrupt and he'll just be back into the cabinet at the next reshuffle. It doesn't mean to say that out and out corruption should just be ignored.

Risking your reputation and career for no personal benefit seems awfully wank to me. If yer gonna be corrupt, then make a fist of it and make it worthwhile. This is why pornographer oligarchs have no respect for the administration

Arrogant cunt Johnson saying the matter is now ‘closed’ after Jenrick released correspondence (which actually raised a load of further questions). ‘Move on’ everybody.

He thinks he's got away with it every time. But it's a gradual chipping away at what tory voters and MPs think of him. This won't have appalled them in the way the Cummings affair did, but it adds to the feeling that he's out of his depth

Nobody honestly believes 12 grand was the only bribe here?

It's not; he's donated the requisite £50k to grant him an audience with ministers, including the PM. I'm sure they talk about the weather and if they're going anywhere nice on holiday.

I think it was Zahawi on Today this morning who procrastinated long enough to avoid answering Justin Webb's question about why rich people can do this, but not converts from the Red Wall. By no means unique to the Tories, this tactic seems to be heavily ingrained in their 21st century media mannerisms, particularly if it's a broadcaster who has the gall to try and be politically balanced.
