Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick unlawfully approved a £1bn east London housing development so Tory Party donor could avoid £40m bill

Corrupt as fuck
Robert Jenrick accepted

Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick has accepted he approved a £1bn east London housing development unlawfully.

The 1,500-home development on the Isle of Dogs, Tower Hamlets, was approved on 14 January - the day before community charges placed on developments were increased.

The timing of the decision meant Conservative Party donor Richard Desmond avoided paying around £40m.

Mr Jenrick accepted his decision was unlawful but denies any bias.

The government's own planning inspector advised against the scheme saying it needed to deliver more affordable housing in what is London's poorest borough.

The inspector also said that with buildings up to 44 storeys high, the development harmed the character of the area and views of Tower Bridge.
Local councillors asked the High Court to order the government to disclose emails and memos around the deal.Rather than disclosing the correspondence, the Housing Secretary's lawyers conceded the timing of his decision "would lead the fair-minded and informed observer to conclude that there was a real possibility" that he had been biased

Mad isn't it? Can't even be bothered to slightly hide it. Right there. Fuck the lot of you.

And they have the audacity to look down their nose at the corruption in other countries.
Just listen to the smugness:

" Rather than disclosing the correspondence, the Housing Secretary's lawyers conceded the timing of his decision "would lead the fair-minded and informed observer to conclude that there was a real possibility" that he had been biased "

Tower Hamlets Council and the Greater London Authority have welcomed the announcement that a different government minister will now decide upon the project.
somehow i don't imagine that someone else from a corrupt government is going to reach a wholly different view of the matter: we'll soon see if this government can be bought or merely rented

i'd like an explanation of how someone can make an unlawful decision in the course of their work and still remain in their ministerial post but it's clear that our political class are an augean stables which need a wholesale cleansing. not only are their snouts in the trough, they've fucking clambered right in and wallow in their own filth.

not to disagree needlessly, but there is a much better historical analogy that can be drawn from the classical world for this particular case

Good to see the dodgy fuck is coming under pressure

Jenrick, who faced criticism for his approach to social distancing during the coronavirus outbreak, has been labelled “unfit to continue to serve” after denying vital investment in east London where affordable housing is scarce.

The Labour Party has also written to the cabinet secretary Sir Mark Sedwill calling for an investigation into the matter.

Apsana Begum, Labour MP for Poplar and Limehouse – the constituency that includes the printworks – told HuffPost UK: “We have one of the highest rates of child poverty in the entire country and struggle with the near-impossible situation of having soaring monthly rents, which all too often mean people, particularly those on low incomes, are faced with an increased risk of homelessness.

“This whole debacle is further evidence that this government is more interested in serving billionaires rather than local people.

“The housing minister – whose properties include a £1.1m mansion built by an 18th century slave-trader – should consider his position given the alleged revelations surrounding the quashing of the planning permission for the huge Westferry Printworks scheme.”

Trouble is, the Tory Party is like dodgy-fuck-a-mole - you whack one down, two more pop up, the the original cunt re-emerges in a Cabinet post to rejoin the fun.

hope Starmer asks Johnson at PMQs whether the government will be making up the £40 million Jenrick cost the taxpayer

and about the fabric of the chair the next minister who makes the decision will sit in too

He's just released the relevant documents and Jenrick is smothered in shit. We are cursed with inept politicians too stupid to cover their traces. We also have a Pornographer-in-Chief who can't spell dough. Let's hope neither of them make in to "Celebrity Bake Off"

- Desmond urged Jenrick to rush through the deal before the levy was introduced, writing: “We don’t want to give the Marxists loads of doe for nothing!”
