Hillsborough Justice wristbands

Details of the 16th Hillsborough Memorial Service to be held at Anfield on Friday, 15th April 2005.

The 16th anniversary of the disaster in Sheffield that cost 96 fellow fans their lives will take place on Friday, 15th April 2005.

As is the custom, the Hillsborough Family Support Group are organising a Memorial Service to mark the occasion and to remember those who died.

The service will be inter-denominational and will take place on the Kop at Anfield. It will commence at 2.45pm, include a minute's silence at 3.06pm and concludes at about 3.30pm with the singing of 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. All are welcome to attend the service.

Tickets are not required and an open invitation is extended to all to join the families, the Directors, officials and players of LFC plus thousands of fellow football fans in the annual act of rememberance. This year is expected to be exceptionally well attended and the club is asking that you allow adequate time and plan to be in your seats by around 2pm.

Phil Hammond, Chairman of the Hillsborough Family Support Group said: "We light a candle to remember each individual life that was extinguished prematurely and we rely upon the eternal flame of the Hillsborough Memorial to burn some light into the darkest night.

"For many, Friday, 15th April will be just a 'normal working day' and there will be others who are unable to attend - despite wishing otherwise. We invite them to join us in spirit and spare a thought. Say a private prayer or even light a candle in their minds."

650 wristbands were stolen during a break in so if you are offered any that are not from the pubs round the ground, HJC shop etc do not buy them

Appauling. Scumbags.

sod it,i'm just gonna give the HJC some money,it's ridiculous and really sad that an attempt to raise awareness has turned into a fashion craze for parasitic fuckers to make money out of.

That's fair enough Rosa. I think it's too emotional an issue to constitute a fashion craze (unlike the Livestrong ones which have lost all meaning), but I appreciate your point about the thieving parasites.

You can get all sorts of gifts and goodies for you money - HJC do all sorts - why not get something for your cash instead?

being an everton myself i wear mine with pride, lost a very good friend, never forgot him, who says we hate the reds, merseyside sticks together

The private prosecution in Leeds in 2000 against the senior police officers at the ground that day has been denouced by the campaigners as a showtrial. I know they want justice, but what kind of verdict would satisfy them?

Just curious.

Well said mate. YNWA ;)

As a Forest fan, I have met many people who still say 'I know what I saw that day', and it just smacks of ignorance and pointless rivalry.

What happened at Hillsborough was a disaster, and should never be forgotten. I proudly wear the wristband and have no problem telling other Forest fans why I choose to do so.

Justice for the 96.

Right.
before I start & ask this question, I just want to lay a statement .

I am not trolling & dont want to cause offence, but ......

Ive been skimming through this topic , checked out the site etc & can someone exactly tell me what "justice " means here & what this campaign is really about ?

Im not going to mention the Sun or whatever or get into any Knee jerk anti Scouse postings, but We all know what happened ( or do we ) at HIllsboro - what is to be gained from this incessant regurgitation of horror ?

Let me reiterate - IM not here to provoke an argument or troll, I genuinely fail to see what the point of this campoign is.

A lot of people don't seem to know what happened-loads of opinion polls show that a lot of people (especially Sheffield Wednesday fans, according to one poll) think that the disaster was caused by Liverpool fans turning up drunk, despite both the Taylor enquiry and the official inquest ruling out the behaviour of the fans as a cause. Have a look at the HJC site, the link's in the first post.

Blmey, no-one does persecution quite like the scousers

But it’s the hypocrisy I can’t stand .. where’s your Heysel wristband’s eh?

Oh, I forgot .. that one's safely brushed under the carpet

What's that got to do with the events of Hillsborough (and subsequent coverage)?

Someone asked a couple of posts up: “what is to be gained from this incessant regurgitation of horror ?”

And it’s a fair point. Hillsborough was a tradegy for sure, but no amount of campaigns or enquiries are going to bring anyone back from the dead.

Its hard enough moving on from something like that as it without hand-wringers bringing it up all the time.

My point was perhaps there is just a teensie-peansy little bit of wallowing in the sense grief by some people (certainly not all) and I don’t reckon it helps ..

The comparison with Heysel is interesting. That only happened 5 years earlier and has been confined to history .. it would be tasteless of me to speculate why this is but I think we all know the reason

They were given out at the Liverpool-Juventus game at Anfield last April,if you really want one you could contact the club to see if they have any left.

"........Liverpool honoured the memory of the 39 victims of Heysel with a number of commemorative gestures in the lead-up to the first Champions League tie with Juventus. First there was a friendship match between the Liverpool and Juventus fans that took place at the Academy in Liverpool. A Kop Mosaic featuring the word Amicizia (friendship) alongside a Liver Bird and the respective club colours, was displayed in conjunction with a one minute silence prior to kick-off.

Every visiting fan received a free four-page brochure in Italian aimed at promoting friendship and understanding between the supporters. The front cover carried the club crests and words of welcome. Inside there was a personal message to the Juventus fans from Ian Rush and the split image picture showing him in Liverpool and Juventus kits.

On the back there were the words for: We Are Sorry. You'll Never Walk Alone. Every visiting fan also received a special wristband in red, white and black with the inscription friendship in both Italian/English. Commemorative Juventus/Liverpool scarves and t-shirts were sold. The matchday programme was also completely re-designed to pick up on the friendship theme. The cover carried the hand of friendship logo used on the scarf. The teams were removed from the back page and replaced by an image of the Memoria e Amicizia banner.

A banner carrying the theme ”In Memoria e Amicizia” (In Memory and Friendship) message was carried by fans from the Kop to the Juventus end prior to kick-off. Phil Neal, Liverpool captain at Heysel in 1985, performed this ceremony with Michel Platini. The banner also carried the Christian names of the 39 Heysel victims and the symbolic union of the Liverpool Liver Bird and the Juventus Zebra."
